# RE: Ditching Linux *Entered: in vim on x201* | *Date: 20200210* Recently [Slugmax] replied to [SparcIPX] on the topic of ditching Linux for good. The reasons pertain primarily to systemd and a move towards a Microsoftesque monoculture. I agree with the badness of this. Personally, instead of ditching Linux, I switched to Gentoo on my Thinkpad. My Gentoo installation uses openrc instead of systemd, and even boots using lilo instead of grub (just for kicks, and the tux icon header). I think this is a good choice for a PC OS. Were I seeking to setup a new server at this time, I'd also opt for a BSD, or possibly an [illumos] variant. I want a nice, lean system, with only the stuff I need installed on it. As I have stated previously on [lobste.rs] pertaining to making Linux into a *platform*, I disagree with it completely.
