Rather than just stop them altogether, I thought I'd gradually wean myself off them, so I had a go at drawing isometric projections. I have tried to keep the projections very clean and simple, aiming for a CAD-like image. These drawings are not really finished, but I've spent enough time on them and I want to move onto to something else now. First, here's a rectangle, projected isometrically: . ' - . . ' ' - . . ' ' - . . ' ' - . . ' .' . ' .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' ' The biggest problem I had was making the lines continous. I tried several methods of linking characters together, but I kept getting 'kinked' lines. Rather than draw lines that I didn't like the look of, I decided to leave the gaps blank and rely on my brain (bad mistake!) to fill in the gaps and give the impression of a solid continous line. Following on from the rectangle, I thought I'd try and draw something on the 'floor' that I had created. After several false starts, I decided to draw a house: .d88b. d888888b Y888888P . - . 'Y88P' .' . ' . -. . ' . . ' ' . . . .' '.. . . ' : : ' . . . ' . : : : ' . . . ' : ' : : ':' .: : - . .: : :' : . . : : ' - . . ' : : : :': : '.' .' . ' ' : .: : : . ' .' '. - : :' ' :.:' .' '. : : . '. ' . .' '. ' : . ' ' . ' . .' '. - : . ' . '.' '. '' . .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' ' There are quite a few gaps in the lines above, but I didn't like the kinks that appeared when I filled them in. I also tried to restrict myself to only a few characters to maintain the clean lines, using lots of different characters gave a very 'messy' appearance. Finally, I thought I'd better 'render' my drawing and fill in a shadow cast by the sun: .d88b. d888888b Y888888P . - . 'Y88P' .' . . ' . -. . . . . '. . . ' ' . . . . . . . . . .' '.. . . . . . . . ' : :::.'. . . . .. . ' . : : :::::::::.'. . . . ' : ' : :::::::::::::::.':' .: : - . .:::::::::::::::::: :' : . . : : ' - . . ' :::::::::::::::::: : :': : '.' .' . ' .'::::::::::::::::: .: : : . ' .' '. . . . . '::::::::::::: :' ' :.:' .' '. . . . . . ''::::::::: : . '. ' . .' '. . . . . . '':::::: . ' ' . ' . .' '. . . . . . .'::: . ' . '.' '. . . . . . .'' . .' '. . . . .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' '. .' ' Again, the shadow doesn't look how I'd hoped it would, but my eyes were going funny and I figured that the drawing had gone as far as I could take it. I'll probably do a few more isometric projections, but I need to set up a library of lines all the way from horizontal to vertical first!
