You know, your snakes look excellent, but somehow on my screen they seem to have a flattish look, like a tape. I think it is the ','s near the spine that are causing the 2-D look on the uppaer side of the bar. At the bottom, I can't figure it out, though the '__/' construct seems to have a bearing on the overall look on the lower side of the bar. You can probably see that the flatness is much more pronounced in the second figure - the snake looks like a strip of paper wrapped around the spine.
