[npq] q I read my news using trn... so this is for trn users... In such cases when I accidentally skipped over a news and have already skip the newsgroup; in which case the news has been deleted ; I will immediately give the command "SHIFT a" at the line where the newsgroup is written that I wish to preserved to the original state. This is done at the first level of entrance in trn(where you can find the listing of the newsgroups- not where there is a listing of topics for that particular newsgroup) eg. ==== 13 unread articles in alt.sports.baseball.atlanta-braves --read now?[+ynq] ==== 8 unread articles in comp.mail.mush -- read now?[+ynq]SHIFT a ~~~~~~~~ I make it a habit to do this after I quit reading any newsgroup so that if I want to read it again when I enter trn (if its still in the pool) it will still be there. Sometimes I just fiddle the list in the .newsrc file - and I change the numbers written after the name of the newsgroup. eg -use vi or joe to enter the .newsrc file .newsrc alt.sports.baseball.atlanta-braves: 1-1889 comp.mail.mush: 1 - 1386 ~~~~ I don't know exactly how to determine the correct # to put... but I use the trial and error method. So far my fiddling hasn't done any harm. I'll just enter trn after every changes I make to see if my desired news is back, if not I'll change the numbers some more until i get what i want. (Sometimes I have to make a few changes before I get the news back) USE THIS METHOD AT YOUR OWN RISK. JUST REMEMBER to make a backup of your .newsrc file b4 you try to do anything. If anything should go wrong you could just replace the file that you've screwed up with the backup file. ...AND another thing... you could modify the .newsrc file to place your favorite newsgroup at the top of you newsgroup list. Just move the line containing your the desired newsgroup to the top of the list. Or you can use the hard way ;) and type it. you can also unsuscribe a newsgroup by deleting the line containing the newsgroup name. you can un-unsuscribe a newsgroup by changing ! to : eg comp.mail.mush! 1 - 1386 to comp.mail.mush: 1-1386 ~ ~ you can also suscribe any newsgroup that is in the news pool at your site by writing down the full name of the news group and (yes) the numbers. > > > Maybe some other folks can tell how to read already read news for > other readers and systems.
