It's pointless to argue "no, no the word art means THIS" because there simply is no consensus. Regarding the merits of GIF -> ASCII conversions... As I understand it, this newsgroup is simply a place for pretty-to-look-at things to be posted. Just like with pictures in any other medium, a variety of techniques are used to produce the images.
