You type 'anonymous' for the username, and your email address for the password. You type 'ls' to list what's in a folder, 'cd' and a foldername to go into a folder, and type 'cd ..' to back out of a folder. The really good news is that you don't have to do it the standard way if you don't want to. You can use a Web browser as a front end to the FTP process. Let's say you want to go to the above mentioned ftp.isu.edu, you would, assuming you have lynx on a live Net site, type at the prompt: lynx ftp://ftp.isu.edu This will take you to ftp.isu.edu and automatically log you in, so you don't have to do that. And instead of using commands, you use the up and down arrow keys to move up and down menus. You use the right arrow to go into a folder, and the left arrow to back out of a folder. The right arrow is also used to access a text file or download a binary. To download a text file, you press the d key while the item is selected. You can also type: lynx ftp://ftp.isu.edu/pub/figlet This will drop you right into the Figlet folder. Even better news is that if you go to the Scarecrow's WWW Link, you can browse many FTP, Gopher, and WWW sites just by clicking on links to them. To go to the Scarecrow's WWW Link using lynx, type at the prompt: lynx http://gagme.wwa.com/~boba/scarecrow.html Hope you enjoy yourself. -- ::::::::: ... ... ... :/%%%%%%% _____ ::: ::: ::: / %%_ %% ______ //////// ::+ ::+ ::+ | %%:|__/ ___ .ooo ____ ////#### #######\ ...... +:+ +:+ +:+ | %%%%%%% ___ d88*88 /__ \ _am,//## /// ###| ###| :: :: :++ ++: :+: |___ %% ___ d88 88 ___) / ,gF ,@/## //// #######/ ii ii +++ +:+ +++ :/%%| %% ___ 8888888 / _/ ,8Ew*" ## ///// ###|###\ || || ++# ++# ++# / %%%%%%% ______88L 88 / /\ \ K , #### /// ###| ###/ || || #+# #+# #+# |_______/ _____ 88 88/_/ /_/ NbpP //////// ###| ##/ !!!!!! +###+#++#+#+# ::::::::: ###########
