I assume your news admin people aren't happy with the bandwidth used by alt.ascii-art, and are just "stocking" rec.arts.ascii because it's moderated [ie. has less of the more useless postings and fewer reposts]. You hardly miss any of the art anyway; some kind soul eventually gets round to posting bits and pieces from one to the other (or cross-posts in the first place) -- ,.
