AuraGem's Freedom of Protocols Initiative The Freedom of Protocols Initiative desires to spread the use of new protocols with the goals of creating an advertising-free space that appreciates and prioritizes the user and is designed with the power-to-weight ratio in mind - as simple as can be, as complex as is necessary. This initiative is not about locking people down to certain protocols, creating a document-retrieval singularity, shoehorning everything into a specific protocol, or protocol nationalism/supremacy. It is about embracing the plurality of protocols and each of their unique uses, characteristics, design goals, cultures, etc. Part of this initiative is creating resources for each protocol. To achieve this, AuraGem will be bringing many of its resources created originally with Gemini in mind to these other protocols: Nex, Spartan, Guppy, and Gopher. AuraGem's Search Engine is getting ready to be able to crawl from these other protocols. Many other services, like AuraGem's Public Radio and YT Proxy are already available from Nex, Spartan, and Gopher. Finally, to allow for the easy expansion of these networks, I have started creating a server that one can set up to support each of these protocols. It is called SIS, and it stands for Smallnet Information Services. You can find more information on that project here: https://gitlab.com/clseibold/smallnetinformationservices SIS will also allow one to setup a Misfin server in the future, but for now one can use my other misfin server implementation: gopher://auragem.letz.dev/1/misfin-server/ Sister Sites: gemini://auragem.letz.dev/ nex://auragem.letz.dev/ spartan://auragem.letz.dev/
