Jeremy Boot, G4NJH, has been following that story. JEREMY: Think of the proposal as an express track to a Full Licence - because that's what it is. A syllabus being designed by volunteers for the Radio Society of Great Britain, would enable licence candidates to fast-track directly to the Full licence level without having to proceed first through the Foundation and Intermediate stages. An Essex Ham report notes that the syllabus, presently in draft form, is a precursor to what would be similar to the original City and Guilds Radio Amateur Examination, which was last offered in late 2003. An excerpt of the RSGB document that Essex Ham posted notes, amongst other things, that the Exam Standards Committee hopes to circulate the syllabus throughout the UK amateur radio community by the end of this year, although one of the issues planners have yet to resolve is the form the examination is expected to take. (ESSEX HAM) ** TOP-SCORING STATIONS NAMED FOR 13 COLONIES EVENT PAUL/ANCHOR: America's Revolutionary War has once again made some big history - but this time, it's in amateur radio, as we hear from Stephen Kinford, N8WB. STEPHEN: The outcome of the American Revolution has already been recorded by history -- but now, there's a new bit of history in the record books: the results of the 13 Colonies Special Event station that has become an international tradition every year around the Fourth of July. According to event manager Ken Villone, KU2US, here is the final tally: With operators in each of 13 states repesenting each of the original United States colonies, New York's K2A emerged as the top scorer, with more than 16,000 contacts. Pennsylvania's K2M landed a close second with more than 15,700 contacts. New Hampshire's K2K had more than 13,000 contacts, putting it in third place. The bonus station WM3PEN won the designation of Top Club with more than 7600 contacts, using just about every mode available. New York's K2A won Top State, and every operator will receive a plaque. The three bonus stations combined - WM3PEN, GB13COL, and K2Z - made 18,891 contacts. Ken noted there is interest in formally returning satellite operations to next year's 13 Colonies event, and organizers are looking for someone to spearhead the effort. He wrote in an email to this year's operators "everyone should be proud of themselves," noting the results reflect the highest number of contacts in more than 11 years. For Amateur Radio Newsline, I'm Stephen Kinford, N8WB. (KEN VILLONE KU2US) **** BREAK HERE: Time for you to identify your station.
