WORLD OF DX

In the World of DX, Harald, DF2WO, will be using the call sign D44TWO,
from Santiago Island, between September 29th and October 13th. He will
be active on 160-10 meters, holiday style, using CW, SSB, and the Digital
modes. In digital, he works mostly on FT8, PSK31, JT65, and RTTY, and he
uses slow CW. QSL via M0OXO.

Be listening for Jan, F6EYB, active as FK8CJ, from New Caledonia, until
the end of the year. Jan will be on various HF bands, but mainly 30, 20,
and 17 metres. QSL via F6EYB, LoTW, or eQSL.

Operators Leszek, SP6CIK, Jarek, SP6OJK, Janusz, SP9FIH, Roman, SP9FOW,
Jerzy, SP9TCE, and Jozef, SP9HVW, will be on the air with the call sign
EX6QP, from Kyrgyzstan (pronounced: Kir-zig-stan) between the 2nd and 15th
of September. Listen on various HF bands for activity on SSB, CW, RTTY,
and FT8. QSL via SP 6 OH J K.

KICKER: IT'S A DOG-GREET-DOG WORLD ON THE SUMMITS

STEPHEN/ANCHOR: Our final story is proof positive that many SOTA
enthusiasts are also dog lovers. When it's time to get on the air, it's
a dog-GREET-dog world, as we hear from Ed Durrant, DD5LP.

ED: It's a known fact: hams who operate in the Summits on the Air awards
programme are a breed apart. That's not to say that they are loners who
ascend to the heights of lonely summits in search of meaningful DX.
Being a breed apart means having the company of the best of the breed -
or mixed breed - as one's own loyal dog. The SOTA operators around the
world recently celebrated a ham's best friend, by sharing photos, and a
few words online on the SOTA reflector, to show how canine companions
make these sometimes arduous times less lonely.

For Guru, EA2IF, the SOTA team includes of 7-year-old Lucho, a dog rescued
from abandonment, and now king of the hill. There's 10-year-old Kimo, who
braves the snowiest of activations with Sylvia, OE5YYN. Treacle, a
not-quite 12-year-old terrier, shows remarkable patience in a photo taken
recently on Guisborough Moor, as Phil, G4OBK, completes 18 contacts on 40,
30, and 2 metres. Brave Shortie, now the canine equivalent of a Silent Key,
is seen during a memorable activation with David, G3RDQ. Shortie used a
small trolly that supported her, after she had suffered a slipped disc.

There are so many more on the reflector - too many to list here - and yes,
I have to brag a bit, because my very own partner in adventure, Bonnie, is
there as well.
