They are afraid > of going against the grain. There is a reason for that. It is pure game theory. Already in my generation, in school, the cult of mediocrity was getting established. If you were a good student you made the other students look bad, so people disliked you. If you pointed out at problems that needing fixing, you were bad news, because now they had to go and fix it, and people disliked you even more. Compound this over a few decades and what you have is people who has learnt that trying to do the right thing will get them scorned, ridiculed and mocked at best by their peers. I only see people enjoying being productive when they have no peers on their same level and they have bosses who don't go bonkers when a problem is pointed out for them.
