When using an Offline Mail Reader, like I (and many others) do, the 
thread isn't visible.  Instead of trying to do it differently than 
everyone else, and differently from the way it's been done for decades, 
why don't you just quote the messages you are replying to?  It's not 
difficult.  If you need some pointers on how to do it, just ask.
