Subj : Local Area Exam Session To : ALL From : Daryl Stout Date : Thu Jun 23 2016 08:47 pm I will be assisting the Arkansas Defense Force Amateur Radio Club with a ham radio license exam session this coming Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the Laman Library, at 2801 Orange Street, in North Little Rock. Testing begins at 1pm, with walk-ins welcome until 1:30pm. They test the last Saturday of every month, except for December. This exam will likely be one of the last chances to test for the Amateur Extra Class exam in central Arkansas before the Question Pools change on Friday, July 1, 2016. Aside from those noted above, other ham radio license exam sessions that I will be involved in for the remainder of 2016 are as follows (all on Saturdays): 1) Laman Library, 2801 Orange Street, North Little Rock, Arkansas Start Time: 1pm - Walk-ins Welcome until 1:30pm This is sponsored by the Arkansas Defense Force Amateur Radio Club July 30, August 27, September 24, October 29, and November 26. No testing in December, due to the Christmas holidays. 2) UALR Benton Center, 410 River Street, Benton, Arkansas Start Time: 9am - Walk-ins Welcome until 9:30am July 23, and October 22. 3) Catholic High School, 6300 Father Tribou Street, Little Rock, Arkansas Start Time: 9am - Walk-ins Welcome until 9:30am This is in conjunction with the CAREN Club All Arkansas Hamfest. While the hamfest starts at 8am, testing does not start until 9am. September 17. 4) Amy Sanders Library, 31 Shelby Drive, Sherwood, Arkansas Start Time: 2pm - Walk-ins Welcome until 2:30pm This is around the corner from the Sherwood Municipal Complex on Kiehl Avenue. August 6 and December 3. Note that if I have things set up, and at least 2 other Extra Class Volunteer Examiners (VE's) besides myself, prior to the start time noted for the Amy Sanders Library, the UALR Benton Center, or at Catholic High School, testing may start a little early. Regardless, the cut-off time for walk-ins at ALL sessions noted, is 30 minutes after the above start time. For what to bring to the license exam, go to: http://www.arrl.org/what-to-bring-to-an-exam-session Those wishing to register for the exam, or to notify the VE Team Liaison of needed exam accomodations due to a disability, can email me at wx1der at gmail dot com Note that there will NOT be ANY Question Pool change in 2017. The Question Pool cycle begins anew in 2018, with the Technician Class Question Pool...followed by the General Class Question Pool in 2019... and finally, the Amateur Extra Class Question Pool in 2020. The pools and exams change every 4 years...so, examinees need to be SURE that they are studying the CURRENT exam material. Otherwise, they will be in for "a rude awakening" on exam day...likely seeing questions they have never seen before. And, while studying is NOT fun, if you don't study the material...let alone the right material... you are practically guaranteed to fail the exam!! Ten options for study material are located at: http://www.wx1der.com/hamradio.htm#study Some options are free, but some do charge a fee. As of this posting (June 23, 2016), if you have study material for the Technician exam BEFORE July 1, 2014...the General exam BEFORE July 1, 2015...or the Amateur Extra exam BEFORE July 1, 2012...they are WORTHLESS, and should be DISCARDED. Effective July 1, 2016, that will be the new date for the Extra Class Question Pool, and any study material before that date will be WORTHLESS, and should be DISCARDED.
