I will be conducting an amateur radio license exam on Saturday, Sept. 14,
2019, starting at 10am Central Time, at the UALR Benton Center, 410 River
Street, in Benton, next to the former Lewis Stadium. Directions to the
test site are located at callsign.ualr.edu/ve-exams.shtml

Because there were several exam sessions in the past, where no examinees
showed up, making it "a trip for nothing" to the Volunteer Examiners, I
am REQUIRING PRE-REGISTRATION -- no later than 10am Central Time on
Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019 (48 hours in advance). If no one registers for
the session, or I don't get at least 3 ARRL/VEC Amateur Extra Class VE's
to serve, then the session will be CANCELLED.

The only other license exam session I am scheduled to do in 2019 will be
at the Amy Sanders Library in Sherwood, on Saturday, November 2, 2019.
The same PRE-REGISTRATION rules will apply (if no one registers by 48
hours in advance, the exam session is CANCELLED). I do have potentially
one candidate for the November 2 session as of now.

I can not schedule 2020 exam dates until sometime in December, or after
the first of the year...but I will try to move them to the 2nd or 3rd
Saturday of the month. However, it will depend on what is available at
the exam site.

Examinees need to be SURE to study the CORRECT Question Pool, or they're
going to be in for a RUDE AWAKENING on exam day!! Every 3 out of every 4
years, on July 1st, one of the license class Question Pools and resulting
exams...changes. It's Technician in year 1, General in year 2, Amateur
Extra in year 3, then no updates in year 4...before the cycle starts over
again.

The year 2020 is "year 3 in the cycle", so those wanting to upgrade to
Amateur Extra need to get their studies in high gear. The new Extra Class
Question Pool will be released in early 2020, with final revisions likely
by May, 2020 -- then the exams take effect on July 1, 2020.

Examinees also need to be sure that websites they use have the CORRECT
material -- HamTestOnline (hamradiolicenseexam.com) ALWAYS has the CORRECT
material online. Once a Question Pool expires, it is REMOVED from their
website. They put the final version of the new pool online, in case
examinees aren't going to be able to test until after the pool changes.

By the same token, VE Team Liaisions need to be SURE that they have the
CURRENT exam books in their supplies. Once the old pool expires, any old
books supplied by the VEC, or exam books printed with exam software, are
to be DESTROYED.
