  I may have replied to this before, but inter-operability is essential
in a disaster or other emergency situation. Around here, it's not IF the
New Madrid Earthquake Fault will split...it's WHEN.

  I like using the ham radio handi-talkies to monitor the train
frequencies...like when I'm taking a combination train/bus trip from
Little Rock, Arkansas to Longview, Texas (train), then Longview, Texas
to Shreveport, Louisiana (bus). It's fun to "read the mail", and find
out what the train crews are saying...although I can't broadcast what I
hear to others.

  I remember on one train trip, just outside of El Paso, Texas, there
was incident of two underage kids...not only smoking (which is
prohibited on the train), but having sex in one of the lavatories. The
Conductor contacted law enforcement at Sierra Blanca, just outside of El
Paso, and the train was stopped. The kids were removed from the train,
arrested, and taken to jail. Plus, their baggage was given to them,
their trip tickets were confiscated, and their reservations were
cancelled.

  Even when the policies state that certain things are prohibited, some
feel that "rules are made to be broken".
