# 2023-09-27 14:36:58.905802 UTC (+0000) Preparations for 30th Eternal September GangBAN Go Tournament To prepare our go tournament tomorrow at 20:00 CEST, bitreich.org is now running an instance of nngs, an old server software to allow us to host go tournaments. ## Get an NNGS client. Install cgoban1: https://cgoban1.sourceforge.net/ Most major distributions have the client as package games-board/cgoban. There are other clients supporting nngs, but they all seem to be written in Java. Who uses Java in 2023? ## Connect to Bitreich NNGS server. $ cgoban 1.) Click "Setup". 2.) Set "Server Name" to "Bitreich.org". 3.) Change "Machine Name" to "bitreich.org". 4.) Use for "Port Number" "9696" or "6969", depending on how naughty you are. 5.) Click "Bitreich.org" (button left upper corner) on the cgoban main menu. 6.) Choose whatever "Username" you like, "Password" empty. ## Games Coordination * You can see running games by clicking "Games". * "Players" shows you all online players, with the possibility to start a game. * In the center "X", "O" and "!" will give the server your status on how eager you are for a game, so other players see it. ## Tournament Everyone can already go online and play. Since go games can be really long and most people wanting to join in are beginners, it will be much fun with beginner errors and rankings. The person with the highest rank on Friday evening will be the winner of the GangBAN, so everyone in all timezones can play against eachother with local friends etc. The fun is in trying out Go. :-) Have fun! Sincerely yours, 20h Chief Gaming Officer (CGO)
