Hmm, well, what have I been up to lately? Not too much, I was sick for a while and my executive function went through the floor again. I did finish compiling my brother's DOSBox package, and once I test it on a new PC to ensure that it'll run out of the box for him, I'll send it over. There's a number of fun games on that flash drive, I played through one or two of them and I'll try to do some write ups on here later. I also sent my Amiga 1200 out to Acill, an Amiga repairman based out of California. About two months later, he sent me back a fully recapped motherboard! I put it all back together, plugged in my accelerator board (as faster 68EC020 & 8 MB RAM), washed the case and keys, and got her up and running! I also managed to pick up a Polaroid TV on the side of the road during a walk, I carried it home and it works great! I'd been eyeing them at the thrift stores back when I shopped, because they seemed like a good unit to use on my computers and consoles -- I was right! So, I have a nice flat screen with a relatively clean digital signal from my Amiga B-) The one thing my Amiga still lacks is network capabilities, so I'll need to get an Ethernet card soon. In the mean time, to make file transfers easy I'm working on a serial PPP connection using a Pi Zero W. It's the same technique I used on my Tandy 1000 before I got *THAT* on ethernet. (sidenote: somebody remind me to do a write up on that!)_ Fortunately I loaded a few terminals with XMODEM capabilities on my Amiga's CF card before I put it back together, but I forgot to put in a PPP driver. After an hour or two of fiddling, I've gotten the Pi0 to talk over a USB->RS232 cable. Testing it on my Tandy 1000, which I know worked with the same setup and my laptop, I am able to set: sudo systemctl start getty@ttyUSB0 and once the Pi finishes booting, it sends a login shell over the serial line to my computer. I tested sending a file to my Tandy using the "sx" command (part of the lszrz package) Then I logged into tildetown and colorfield while I still had the Tandy booted, so I haven't gotten around to actually testing things on the Amiga ^_^; It should be simple: use the same command to send over a PPP driver to my Amiga, then terminate the shell on my Pi0 and start a PPP connection. I guess I'll let y'all know how that works out. That's a good use of the Pi 0 (it means I don't have to have a whole laptop sitting on my desk just to get a computer online) but it's really a stop gap until I have a better solution! The real reason I got it is so that I can use it with my Psion 5mx. I bought that machine from my friend @ajroach42, it's a palmtop computer that fits in a small bag along with an average sized book, making it perfect for taking notes. I'm not going out to coffeeshops or restaurants for the foreseeable future, but once I am I'll be able to carry everything I need on foot. The idea is that I can take notes on my readings without the distraction of a bunch of firefox tabs, and if I *do* want/need to go online then I can shell into the Pi 0 and use lynx. (If I really need to do something, I'll still have my smartphone). Umm I have more or less rambled off from topic to topic here, I don't know if I left any unfinished threads in this phlog entry but I've run out of steam. Time for lunch, friends!
