Larry's sister lives in what we call a "trailer park", the only
homes there are trailers, like your granny flat. You don't call
your home a "trailer", do you? If not, what do you call it?
Anyway, where Lil lives there is an office building for the park
and that building has a basement. Anyone who lives out there is
told they can come there to that basement to seek shelter in a
storm. I don't think Lil ever does that but she COULD. I've
never thought to ask her what she does when the tornado sirens
blow here. I can't remember if she has a bathtub? She's out of
town now in North Carolina visiting her daughter and family but
maybe when she gets back I'll remember to ask her. If everyone
from that trailer park went to that one basement, it would
surely be crowded and I can't even believe everyone could get
in. There are a lot of trailers there. Also, I can't believe
that office building would be open in the middle of the night so
I don't think it is of much use anyway.

Bugger I say..... thank goodness we do not live in a " trailer
park " or as we would call it here a " Caravan park "
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE do not live in a caravan Linda or even a Mobile Home as it
might be called in England !
This is a Minor Dwelling ! The fact that it does also have
wheels underneath so it can be moved if needed ..... and is less
than 65sq. mts ! (work that out ) means that it does not need a
council permission :)
A minor dwelling is a secondary house that can be built on your
existing property. It must not exceed 65 square meters in size,
and any garaging or outdoor living space is in addition to this
limit. These smaller residential units serve various purposes,
such as accommodating family members, generating rental income,
or hosting guests.

PS: I don't think trailers are connected to the main water
supply ... are they .. or the main sewerage or toilet supply ?
Do ask Lil when she gets back.
IF you have a better memory than I do ! :)
We call this a Granny flat but officially I think it is a Mobile
Home because it does have wheels even if they are not used
....BUT They CAN be used if needed ( I think )

I know you told us all of this when you got your granny flat but
of course I forgot. Lil has normal city water, sewage, etc. but
then she lives in town and not out in the country as you do.
What you have there looks like what we call a trailer or a
mobile home, that's all I know.

I believe it's a similar situation here too and Robert and I
were thinking of either completely renovating our garage, or
putting a small place in our back yard for Mum to live in, but
we didn't need to after all. The only difference being it didn't
have to movable, so not like a caravan/trailer.

A mobile Home is a good description as this is a BIG caravan
really !! Maybe wider than a normal caravan :0 I suppose if
Lil's trailer is in a park full of other trailers then maybe
they are all connected to the electricity water and gas etc :) !
When Mum left Dad she always fancied living in a 'Mobile Home'
in UK many years ago .... by the beach :) Back then they were
the latest thing but she still had Ange and Cath at home so she
did eventually buy a terrace house by the beach in Amble :)
They are becoming more and more popular as time goes by.....
here in NZ anyway !

They are popular here too and many retirement villages are
'mobile' homes. Some of the homes where Maree lives are mobile,
although hers isn't.

We have many mobile home parks here in Waterloo, so many people
live in them these days. Here in tornado land, it would be a
worry for me but many people live in them and I guess they don't
worry too much about storms.
