       Cubs in '22

       Let's talk shortstops...
Looking at our team for next season, slugging is definitely a
       need.
Any interest in Trevor Story? Why or why not? What kind of deal
       will he get?
Other than the strikeouts, what are his negatives? He seems to
       do everything pretty well.
He turns 29 in November, so will play all of next season as a 29
       yo...

Story apparently has arm issues. His velocity on his throws is
down, 37% Outs of Average. His offense this year is down too.
wRC+ 84. That said is ext velocity, LA and expected stats are
fine. Throw in a QO and I think the Cubs pass. 2022 is going
to be more about prospects than established stars.

This Baez kid out of NY is an impending FA, reportedly likes the
Cubs organization. Lot of swing and miss but incredible
baseball instincts and GG-caliber SS defense plus versatility,
and 40-HR power. Maybe get him at a discount coming off two
       down offensive years?

Baez does stuff that stat heads and the rest of us don't like,
but he also does unique stuff that managers and the rest of us
       love that help win games!
And he oozes confidence, which seems to be at least somewhat
       contagious.
And he puts butts in seats, which has a major impact on Cub
budgets, as we've all been reminded (the hard way)!
I'll hope he will agree to a reasonable-length contract
(primarily because of back issues) and I'll hope that, somehow,
       we can re-sign him.
But I certainly doubt that will happen.

I think he's confused with the big lefty 1st baseman from NY.

It seems to me to be very unlikely that any of the big three
sign with the Cubs after this year. The most likely outcome to
me is that each of them signs extensions with their current
       teams.

The Yankees seem unwilling to spend though. For some reason I
just keep thinking Rizzo ends up with Marlins for too much
       money.

If Baez re-signs with Mets, that will be end of his career as a
SS. Not sure if he wants to do that.
Further, as there will be a market for him as a
SS—obviously—Mets will have to pay a SS price for him to play 2B
or 3B. Not to sure they’d want to do that either.
Yankees may make more sense, as they apparently may want to move
       Gleyber to 2B.
New York City seems like a natural place for Javy. He loves the
limelight and every mercurial thing he does (good and bad) will
be talked and written about endlessly, everywhere.
Guessing that Baez is the least likely of Cubs big trade guys to
come back. If Hoyer actually dips into the big time SS free
agent, think he’s going to want more of OBP, somewhat fewer Ks,
       type of guy.

I could see Javy or Rizzo not liking the market and coming back
       especially Rizzo.
