I know other folks have had this happen as I just sent my last 2
       outer bar plates out.
Friend loaned his 500 out to a 21 year old know it all (by
friends description) that ran the saw so long the chain had got
real loose and came off. The guy took apart to try and put
chain on. Somewhere in all of this the outer bar plate got lost
       in the field cutting area.
Guy brought in a Partner 500 today that has lost the outer bar
plate between clutch cover and bar. Now when he tightens the
cover down it somehow is stopping chain from moving. I never
seen this on all the partner 500 5000 jonsered 490 590 poulan
325 I have owned. Personally I used to ditch the outer bar
       plates myself.
       Will dig in later.

Fun day. Not. :D Front brake locked up on truck in town :o
:-X :-X. Waiting for everything to cool down on truck. Decided
to put new blades and deck back on big rider. Then dug into this
       partner 500.
I removed everything to check as I go. Bar 050, measured drive
link and showing 050. But I wonder what the heck is B2 stamped
on the drive links would mean. In my mind I would think 058.
Thats why I measured DL. Also chain had some weird 3 circle
       stamp all over it.
Anyhow. Back together and works fine without the outer bar
plate. Just like my saws did.
Loved the sound of the ole girl. Missed that sound. Just a stock
saw with baffle pulled out of muffler.

Going by this the chain B2 should be 058. But when I measured
lower end of drive link I seen 050 on my calibers. Didnt see 058
till up closer to tie strap area. This could be part of his
       problem.
I didnt measure the 1.3 050 bar groove though. Maybe wore just
enough to be able to use 058 chain.
       Thinking HD stuff.
