394 Husqvarna Jug weld repairs

Had to do some repairs to some jugs off a 394. Not super pretty
but will hold up fine. Used a spool gun and 4043 wire.

sharing.
How you keeping from warping or keeping bore from getting out of
round. Other words keeping it cooled off.

Kevin,
I soaked some old socks in water and stuffed them in the bore,
hoping this may help. This is the first time doing a jug
repair, I'm going to try the jug with the welded top fin first.
I don't have inside mics, so will see what happens. This was a
used saw that I picked up at a great price. I'm putting a new
Meteor piston in it also. The original doesn't look so good,,,,

That fin has to be pretty thin. Good job on the welding.

Thanks, I used a piece of 1/8 alum as a replacement fin, also
did a few welds between the top fin and next one down to help
stffin things up.

I've tig welded many OEM cylinder to fix fins or exhaust flanges
without anything to dissipate the heat and I've never had them
warp.

I've done some tig welding also on other things, about 4 years
ago my big old monster hobart welder was finally put to sleep.
I bought a new lincoln tig, and to put it plainly, it sucks.

I saw the Lincoln tig in the picture and was wondering how you
liked it. Now I know.
I have a Miller big heavy thing but it sure works nice.

The arc wanders, it doesn't weld worth a crap on real thin
stuff, you can hear the arc and just understand. The old
Hobart, dam, I turned that on the lights dimmed, the neighbors
even knew I had it running. I think that thing could weld a pop
can.

That is the way my big old lincoln is. It weld large stuff fine
but with light pedal the arc wanders terribly. I think I need
to clean and reset the arc gap for the high frequency start.
