Homelite EZ chain problem

im kinda new to this forum but here goes. ive got an old
homelite EZ 10100 and i recently bought a new bar and chain for
it.

after ive installed it after cutting for 10 or 15 minutes the
chain gets very tight where it wont turn and kills the motor.
once dissassembled ive found the top of the bar and mashed spot
on it on the tip nearest the sprocket (rim) without loosening
the bar to re adjust the chain it almost looks like the chain
and bar is not parallel with the chain where it is riding on the
sprocket. the sprocket itself does have some wear on it and no i
have not over tightened the chain when installing. so in the
forums opinion do you think the sprocket needs replaced ot is it
something else? i know im probably not very consice in my
description. but i appreciate any help the forum can send my
way. if i need to replace the rim sprocket, it looks like a
special kind of socket is used to remove the sprocket/rim. it
has 3 holes where mayby pins for a socket go than you turn the
whole thing right to remove. is this correct as well?
this is the rim/sprocket i am looking at unless someone knows
where else to buy it.

I'm guessing you are running a spur sprocket rather than a rim
set up. If you were running a rim, the rim would float on the
sprocket so you wouldn't have any alignment issues. Sometimes
the spur gets worn enough with one bar and when you put a
different bar the chain will ride in another spot.
You are likely setting your chain tension with the drive links
riding in the old grooves in the spur. As you mentioned,
sometimes they jump out of the grooves with a new bar and chain
due to alignment issues causing the chain tension to get very
tight.
A new sprocket would be a good idea.
A rim sprocket set up would be best as it eliminates this issue.

the ez uses a manual oiler but yes I am getting oil on the bar
it is always wet when I check it.

can someone point me in the right way as to where to buy a new
rim sprocket for my old EZ. the type/model is 10100, and places
like ereplacement.com dont show one for that type/model. i tried
jackssmallengines and they have several but they all want the
crank diameter. ebay has alot listed but im afraid of buying one
and it being the wrong crank diameter. thanks for any help.

Wasn't aware that there different size cranks for EZ's.
BTW your current rim/spur wouldn't possibly be for a low-profile
chain would it?

the chain i took off it was not a lp chain. since i bought this
off craigslist it does not mean that the right chain was on it.
when i went to oregons website i purchased the bar and chain
combo off it that itsaid i needed which was not a lp chain. im
not sure how to tell if the rim spur is a lp or a standard size
one. if you can point me in the right direction or tell me how
ill try to find out.

91 is oregon 3/8 LP
72 is Oregon regular 3/8
you chain is regular 3/8
oregon sprocket 108567 should work
Been fooling with my 7-19C and 707D which are just a few years
newer than your EZ
I did go for 8 pin rim and .063 404 chain on both saws
Your saw should calm down with a new sprocket
