       Scored today

My local dealer was cleaning house and invited me to look over a
pile of Homelite parts that were headed to the scrap yard. I got
there shortly before the truck and picked up two complete XL-76s
and a Super XL-922, all look good externally. They will have to
wait until I get a few other projects out of the way. I am
excited about the Big Dog, can't wait to hear it bark. ;D

I had a look at the SXL-922 today. Pulled the muffler, piston
looks new. Good spark so shot spritz of gas at 'er and and she
took off like a scared cat. Had to tweak the idle a tich to keep
it running. Man, that thing is LOUD The only problem I see was
somebody hogged out the rewind mount screws to 1/4 NC. Were they
       10-32 like the XL-76? Now I need to find a decent bar, I don't
have enough use to justify a new one.

Very Nice. Good that someone found those saws before they
       went to the scrap heap.
Sounds like your going to enjoy running the 922.

Likely #12-24. The XL-76 & 101 types are actually an exception
       with #10.

Yep. 12-24 was OEM on the 922. Great scores there. Both
models are great runners. Before you run 'em too much I suggest
you freshen up the fuel systems (carb kit, fuel lines, fuel
filter) and replace the crank seals. Those rubber parts have a
finite life. They will often work fine at first after being ran
after a long sit............ but then fail.
       National/Timken 253747 or CR/SKF 6119 for both sides of the 922.
That same seal is what you'll need for the FW side of the 76's.
You will need Homelite 58308 (or 58308a or 58308b)for the PTO
side of the 76's. They are easy to find on eBay for now. We
are still working on a suitable industry/generic seal match for
that one. Tim (fossil) has found a rubber coated match for it
and has ran it with success. Can't recall the # offhand.

6120 does work fine. 6119 does too. It's just the double lip
version. Most original seals on saws were single lip until the
late 1970's. Most current saw seals are double lip. Probably
       doesn't matter one iota.
6120 is single lip. National/Timken 253747 is double lip IIRC.
Poulan 530019097 (Poulan 3400-4000 seals) works too. Used all
of these seals in various saws with success.
