       Chainsaw starts and runs fine.
       When the bar is pointed straight up the motor runs at full
       speed.

       I had one do this long ago and it turned out to be a torn intake
       boot.  I dont know what your saw has though.
       Whats it do when you roll it side to side running?

       Looks like a intake block style. Check for loose carb etc.
       Check for anything loose. Bottom pan bolts etc. Throttle being
       pulled by worn or broke av etc.
