PROBLEM: The bold holding my driving rods on the middle drive wheel has broken off within the wheel. LOCOMOTIVE: 4-6-4 Lionel Hudson #773 Year 1950 REQUEST: How do I get this broken bolt out?? Thanks, tlcmd #Post#: 1206-------------------------------------------------- Re: Bolt broken off in a driving wheel of Loco #773 By: djacobsen Date: December 15, 2015, 9:07 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Hello & Welcome to the Forum! I've discussed your problem with a friend, a retired Lionel Repairman. If it you have the capability to drill a hole into the center of the broken bolt you can take a fine/very small easy out and remove the remaining piece. If that is not possible, your only option is to remove the wheel/blind driver and replace it and the bolt, being careful to get the wheel in quarter when replacing it on the axle. I wish there were an easier answer for you, but replacing the wheel is probably your best bet. Happy Rails! Would you please ask your retired Lionel repair person where we can get those very small easy-outs. My Lionel repair person would like to know as he has tried since my 773 is not the only unit with this problem he is facing. I really appreciate your taking time to ask this question of him and to reply to my post. Be prepared to spend mucho dinero... dave (I'm quite familiar with barbershopping, father-in-law was a tenor with the Bum Hummers back in the 70's.) #Post#: 1214-------------------------------------------------- Re: Bolt broken off in a driving wheel of Loco #773 By: djacobsen Date: December 16, 2015, 4:52 pm --------------------------------------------------------- tcmld I was speaking with my friend again this afternoon about your 773 wheel problem and he mentioned that if you are lucky, you might have one of the 773's that Lionel drilled completely through the wheel and tapped the entire hole to use a longer than normal bolt on the blind driver. Look at the back side of the wheel and look to see if there is any of the bolt protruding. If there is, take a pliers/small vise grip and screw the bolt out the back side of the wheel. Good Luck!
