On my bench it worked using my hand over the infrared sensor. On the layout the train will not trip it. I have it as close as possible to train. I have turned out the lights and even made a shade over the sensor and still it won't trip with a train. Anyone who uses the 135IR can you tell me if you have any problems? Maybe it is just defective and needs to be replaced. Turn your sensor up til train detects it. A lot of cars are dark colored and some engines are to and plus some engines set up to high the 153IR won't pick it up. What i do set up the 153IR on a block of wood or use reflective tape on my engines so the 153IR will pick up engine . The cars once turn sensor up not have to do anything to them. #Post#: 1320-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lionel Infared Controller 135IR By: Nickd51 Date: June 20, 2016, 10:17 am --------------------------------------------------------- Thanks I do have the Switch all the way up . The idea of a reflective tap is good. What type of tape do you use? My cars are green and they don't trip it either but the Engine and tender are black. #Post#: 1321-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lionel Infared Controller 135IR By: chessie41 Date: June 20, 2016, 8:22 pm --------------------------------------------------------- I use yellow reflective tape. You should be able to buy it a lowes or wal-mart any hardware store and also if you have your sensor knob turned up there maybe a problem with your 153IR not sure with not any more info. #Post#: 1322-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lionel Infared Controller 135IR By: Nickd51 Date: June 21, 2016, 10:40 am --------------------------------------------------------- I have to believe the sensor is defective. Although it works with my hand placed in front of it, it will not trip the crossing gates running the train around it. I have elevated the sensor. I have shaded it 2 different ways. With the lights off and on. I can't imagine that they are all like this or they would have been discontinued. I have watched YouTube videos showing it working. So I will go back to Hobby Shop and get another one and try that. If it still doesn't work I am going to go with Z Stuff. #Post#: 1323-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lionel Infared Controller 135IR By: chessie41 Date: June 21, 2016, 11:34 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Nick i have two of the lionel 153IR but mine are older units they work flawless and i know lionel changed the new ones some so not sure they have alot of problems or not haven't heard any feedback on the new ones. Your's could be bad by chance it happens. #Post#: 1324-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lionel Infared Controller 135IR By: Nickd51 Date: June 23, 2016, 12:43 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Chessie, I finally stopped by the Hobby Store and picked up another 135ir, took it home wired it up and it works beautifully. The first one I purchased is defective and it's sensitivity has no range no matter how high you adjust it. I wish that customer service would have told me from the beginning that the unit could be defective and to try another first before they had me change the lighting in the room and put shades on the unit. Wasted a week back and forth with them. Thanks for your help. When you said the unit you have works flawlessly I said I am going to get another one and try it. #Post#: 1325-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lionel Infared Controller 135IR By: chessie41 Date: June 23, 2016, 4:24 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Thats great!! Your welcome Nick!! Yeah the more i thought about it. I figure you had a bad unit all the things you tried and i suggested. I know they should pick the train up. *****************************************************
