Polar Express O-Guage Bass Pro Shop doesn’t run

       ---------------------------------------------------------
We bought this Polar Express O-Guage train set at the Bass Pro
Shop a couple years ago. Each year we bring it out to put around
the Christmas tree. It is a pain to get it working every year,
but this year we’ve been trying for 2 hours and no luck.
When we plug the transformer into the wall the red light on the
track lights up, the light on the front of the train lights up,
but it will not move and the audio sounds don’t work when
you press the buttons on the remote. The remote is fine. Any
ideas what is wrong? Do we have to lube any contacts as they
have never been? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Update: Called Lionel and they said take it to an authorized
dealer, so my wife drove about an hour to the closest one. Turns
out they only sell and don’t fix, but can ship back to
Lionel, like we couldn’t do that ourselves. The only good
thing was he had a test track my wife could use to trouble
shoot. My wife brought the engine and remote. The train
didn’t work so the guy at the shop said let me try and
pair the universal remote and it worked. Turns out to be the
remote. The guy at the shop took it apart but couldn’t see
anything wrong. Of course he didn’t have any remotes to
sell so my wife ordered one on Amazon for under $50. We got the
universal remote yesterday and the train works at home now. I
decided now that we had a remote working it couldn’t hurt
to mess with the old one. I flexed the circuit board trying to
remove it, but it wouldn’t come out because of the
knob/speed dial solder to it so I put it back together and it
worked. Not sure if it was the flexing of the board but it now
works. My wife did find a small piece of solder in the remote
when they opened at the Lionel authorized dealer that looks like
it might have broken off as it had an indent that looked like a
wire connector could have been attached to, but I wasn’t
sure. There was maybe one transistor that looked like it might
be missing the solder, but who knows. I hope this helps someone
else with the same or similar issues that we had.
