Suggested lubrication for c. 1950s rolling stock wheels

Starting to clean up my Lionel that I got as a child. most of
the rolling stock wheels are gummed up. I know from other
non-train items that the oils used back then did eventually dry
out and leave a gummy residue. I was thinking about trying
silicon lubricant, as I found that to be an excellent choice for
my tools. Any suggestions, anybody, on would be a good lubricant
       for the Lionel wheels?
