I recently came into three tubs of post war 1954 Lionel trains, two diesel engines and various other cars, a total of ten in all (tons of track) and an assortment of switches/accessories. I'm a fairly skilled tinker, accomplished at most...master at none but, I'm thinking with the help of a few of the professionals in here I might just be able to breathe life into the set again. I'm looking forward to seeing it back in operation... Any help, suggestions or guidance are most appreciated... #Post#: 2493-------------------------------------------------- Re: New to Forum By: TrainLarry Date: September 25, 2020, 10:10 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the forum! Any feed back is most appreciated, I would like to see about breathing new life into these guys...so, where do I start? #Post#: 2495-------------------------------------------------- Re: New to Forum By: wmillerwjm Date: September 27, 2020, 1:46 pm --------------------------------------------------------- I found some more; 1) 3469 Dump car (dump not attached just sits on top) 2) 25000 Lehigh Valley Gravel carrier? 3) 546446 N&W coal carrier? There is also a short engine with no outside cover...appears to be in good condition but with the outside shell missing I have no idea what to do with it. That's the final list of engines and cars #Post#: 2496-------------------------------------------------- Re: New to Forum By: TrainLarry Date: September 27, 2020, 3:48 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Nice train set you have. First thing to do is get a large box of cotton swabs, a can of Naphtha, and a single edge razor. Use the razor to scrape off any built up gunk on the wheels, then use cotton swabs dipped in Naphtha to finish cleaning up the wheels. Clean the locomotive center pickup rollers the same way. Get some light oil to oil the axle bearings, and grease for gears. Labelle makes products specifically for model trains. (HTM) https://labelle-lubricants.com/model-train-lubes/ Olsens has a website with service manuals for much of what you have: 6250 NW-2 switcher - (HTM) http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/6220-50.htm 2328 GP-7 Switcher - (HTM) http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/2328.htm 6460 Crane car - (HTM) http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=551 6511 Pipe car - parts list - (HTM) http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=440 3469 Dump car - (HTM) http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=524 397 Coal Loader - (HTM) http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=297 395 Floodlight tower - parts list - (HTM) http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=296 3656 Stock car - (HTM) http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=545 The rest of your trains should just need a good cleaning and lubrication. How do I get to the information referenced in the links in the #4 post? Thanks from another newby to this forum. *****************************************************
