De Blasio tells NY police to stop arrests for smoking weed in pu
       blic: report

       ---------------------------------------------------------
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) has reportedly told local
law enforcement officers to stop arresting people who are
       smoking marijuana in public.
A City Hall aide told CNN that de Blasio instructed police to
issue summonses for smoking weed–- the same punishment for
possessing a small amount of marijuana -- instead of making
       arrests.

The report comes days after de Blasio announced an “overhaul” of
New York Police Department (NYPD) policies in an effort to “end
       disparity” in marijuana enforcement.
Data from the Manhattan district attorney’s office show that a
disproportionate number of people arrested for smoking and
possessing small amounts of marijuana in public are minorities.
NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Phil Walzak told
CNN that ending public marijuana smoking arrests is “certainly”
one of the issues that a 30-day working group is addressing.
"The working group is reviewing possession and public smoking of
marijuana to ensure enforcement is consistent with the values of
fairness and trust, while also promoting public safety and
       addressing community concerns," he said.
Brooklyn and Manhattan district attorneys announced earlier this
month that they are working to end prosecution of marijuana
       charges.

This is number two reason why I think mj should be legalized...
the unfair arrests of minorities when it comes to possession.
It's not like that's just an issue in NY. I think it's pretty
much everywhere that a white will get a warning and blacks get
       arrested.
Number one reason for me is that... why on earth should pot be
illegal in the first place? The fact that pot is ranked with
heroin and LSD is ludicrous and I think the reasons for
classifying as such in the first place was based in racism
       anyway.

He has no right to make the laws suit his beliefs. I also don't
believe that many will go through dispensary's either like they
should be. But he needs to follow the states laws and do it the
       right way.

I think what we're seeing with De Blasio is the same thing we
saw with Gavin Newsom and gay marriage in San Francisco....
Mayors bypassing the inert and politically stymied legislatures
and getting right to doing the will of the people.
In this case, with the added racial component, I think De Blasio
is doing the right thing even if it bypasses the normal legal
       channels.

I thought I replied to this.. Lol.
Jails are overcrowded so I agree with this. A ticket or court
       date is sufficient.

Otherwise, cops will have to start arresting white kids smoking
       weed.

I think that you may literally be the most racist person that I

Cops do arrest white kids for illegally smoking pot. And black
kids. And brown kids. And yellow kids.
Why are you so fixed on the color of someone's skin?
