'Out To Get You' 1964. Would this be considered NS or is it too
       early?

"'Out To Get You' 1964. Would this be considered NS or is it too
       early?" ...
I think that would depend upon your definition of "Northern
Soul", when you asked the question and who you asked John.
Depending on this the answer could be No, Yes, Possibly,
       Probably or Definitely!
When the term first became popularised in the early/mid '60s I
doubt if many who latched onto the scene would have called it
"Northern Soul" as it didn't have that stomping mid-60s sound
and I doubt if it got played at any of the venues in that
       period.
However ... no doubt it did get plenty of plays in 1964/5 in the
venues from which the whole 1970s "Northern Soul" phenomenon
evolved so no doubt some old-timers didn't make the distinction
and those who thought that "Northern Soul" meant Soul records
that had been popular plays in "The North" would happily call it
"Northern Soul" (if a bit outdated).
Then by the 90's, when "Northern Soul" DJ playlists became less
fixated on the 100MPH '60s dancers it wouldn't have sounded so
out of place in the venues, might have received a few spins and
would have been categorised as "Northern Soul" by many.
And in the past 20 years or so, since the advent of YouTube,
just about any Soul record made between the early '60s and the
late '70s seems to be described as "Northern Soul" by YouTube
posters, bloggers, fans and pundits on the basis that it might
have got a spin or two, and a few people might have danced to
it, at one or another of the venues over the past 55 years!!
       Hope that clears that up!!   ;D ;) :) ::)

Mmm, as clear as one of Sir Humphrey's explanations! :D
