By: Snakepit Date: June 10, 2023, 4:41 pm --------------------------------------------------------- The Unissued Motown set from 1967 has a track called "Nothing for Nothing", credited to Jr. Walker & the All Stars...details from DFTMC 3.12 Nothing For Nothing - Jr. Walker & the All Stars [[Henry Cosby-Sylvia Moy-Stevie Wonder-Cornelius Grant) Produced by Henry Cosby Track recorded June 21, 1967, instrumentation added June 26, strings added July 7, 1967 It sounds like an early working of : I'm More Than Happy [[I'm Satisfied) [[Henry Cosby-Sylvia Moy-Stevie Wonder-Cornelius Grant) published Jobete 01-Nov-67 alt title: Nothing For Nothing Stevie Wonder; recorded Hitsville-GW, completed 19-Dec-67 ; produced by Henry Cosby ; arranged by Henry Cosby, Paul Riser ; [v1] The vocal on this track doesn't sound like Jr. Walker to me. By: Roger Date: June 11, 2023, 7:09 am --------------------------------------------------------- You could be right Mr Snakepit, they do sound very similar ... (HTM) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJT-c3gm2ug (HTM) https://youtu.be/E7StFuMb6WI I wonder who the vocalist is? He doesn't sound anything like Junior Walker to me either. Roger #Post#: 10495-------------------------------------------------- Re: Jr Walker 1967 track ?? By: Snakepit Date: June 11, 2023, 7:58 am --------------------------------------------------------- SDF poster suggests Henry Cosby? I'm not aware of any HC demos before. The Stevie track has a working title the same as the"Jr Walker" tune. #Post#: 10497-------------------------------------------------- Re: Jr Walker 1967 track ?? By: humboldt Date: June 11, 2023, 6:34 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Certainly not Jr. singing that's for sure? #Post#: 10498-------------------------------------------------- Re: Jr Walker 1967 track ?? By: Paul Nixon Date: June 12, 2023, 5:26 am --------------------------------------------------------- Paperwork clearly shows Nothing as the original title for (I'm More Than), it also clearly states demo - now that sometimes could indicate it is the artist doing a demo but in this case it is most certainly NOT Jnr Walker. Two possibilities looking at the paperwork could be Henry Cosby or Cornelius Grant and I'm not at all familiar with either of their voices. The other two options on the list Moy and Wonder are of course out of the question. I think the gremlins must have got her in U67 as the tape box has Nothing For Nothing scrubbed out replaced by (I'm More Than) and Jnrs name replaced by Stevie Wonder so in my eyes this looks to be a demo for Stevie and not Jnr - his name appears probably because he was just assigned the track and we know that that doesn't always mean a thing. #Post#: 10499-------------------------------------------------- Re: Jr Walker 1967 track ?? By: Paul Nixon Date: June 12, 2023, 5:28 am --------------------------------------------------------- As an aside it does seem that Jnr had a good deal of help with his lead vocals on a number of tracks. #Post#: 10796-------------------------------------------------- Re: Jr Walker 1967 track ?? By: humboldt Date: August 23, 2023, 2:22 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Just heard back from Andy Skurow. You are correct. The song “Nothing For Nothing” became “I’m More Than Happy (I’m Satisfied).” It was assigned to Jr. Walker, but only got a demo lead, not a Junior Walker lead. I’m actually surprised that it got through for the 1967 project. I didn’t work on it, but whoever did must have deemed it worthy for release. So we will never know whose vocal it is! #Post#: 10805-------------------------------------------------- Re: Jr Walker 1967 track ?? I take it that was an AS quote.. #Post#: 10807-------------------------------------------------- Re: Jr Walker 1967 track ??
