Is this 90 minute video available for watching?
By: Bill Date: August 9, 2024, 4:01 pm

I saw in today's West Grand blog the mention of a 90 minute
video THE MOTOWN STORY by Paul Gambaccini that was broadcast
12/31/1987. This is the first I have ever heard of this. Is
this available anywhere to watch? I googled YouTube and saw
some videos by Paul Gamcaccini but none of them were what I was
       hoping for.
       Thanks for any help.

Hi Bill. I think that this show would have been long since
       removed from their searchable archives.

That's a shame. When I googled YouTube/Paul Gambaccini the only
videos there were a handful of Marvin Gaye videos. Thank you
for letting me know that I am "looking for a needle in a
haystack." Does anyone know of a DVD that might include this or
a VHS tape that is available to purchase?

I don't remember this at all. Channel 4 is still operating, so
if it is on the net in its full glory it would be on their All4
Play-Again/Streaming service. Unfortunately, but not at all
surprisingly, I can't find it on there.
HOWEVER ... there is the trailer for it on YT ...

And this looks like it is a 48 minute edit of it ... not great
picture quality but lots of Motown folk reminiscing about their
       time with the company ... :) ...

Thanks everyone. This will be my project for tomorrow
(Saturday). If it takes all day, that is a-ok with me. I
       appreciate everyone's responses.

I remember the Channel 4 very well. It went out on New Year's
eve and as we were going out , I had to set up the video
recorder. Was worrying if it all worked but ,happily, it did and
I kept that video for years. As I recall, for the time..i e. Not
much Motown coverage generally, it was ok.

I saved it to a DVD - it's somewhere in my collection but not
sure even if I found it how I could share it - I guess the C4
police would be onto it in a flash if it reappeared on YT

I watched that 48 Minute edit late last night ... it looked to
me like it was the documentary without the musical interludes
(due to "copyright concerns" according to the YT poster) and
most of Paul Gambaccini's narration ... there was small section
of a minute or so two-thirds of the way through where it was Mr
Gambaccini speaking but otherwise it was anecdotes from most of
the usual suspects ... Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson,
Martha Reeves, Jimmy Ruffin and some more unusual contributors
... including R Dean Taylor, Mary Wells, Junior Walker, Melvin
       Franklin and Claudette Robinson.
I shall have to watch it again and I've no idea how I missed it
       in '87.
