       A New World

This is going to be a sort-of autobiography of a wild mouse.
Enjoy! I will add more chapters later on.
I was warm. Mama was there, and so were my litter mates.
Everything smelled of milk and warmth. I was happy. Weeks
passed, and my siblings opened their eyes. I did not. They
jostled me, and I wanted to be warm and happy forever.
Eventually, I wanted to join their games. I blinked open one
eye, then the other. Everything was a little fuzzy at first, but
with practice, things became clearer and brighter than before. I
watched my siblings play, wanting to join them. But I knew that
it was best I got used to my eyes first. Mama woke, and told me
to play. I was ready, so I charged into the game. "I want to be
the cat!" I declared. They told me I was too little. So I played
the cheese. Oh well, I'll be the cat later. Days passed, and
finally Mama decided to teach us about the Open. The Open was
everything outside our burrow, she said. She told us of hawks
and seeds, grass and other mice. I hung onto her every word. She
told us of the sea, not far from the edge of the forest. She
told us how it sparkled, with rolling waves sending sea foam
onto the fine sand. I wanted to go there someday. But she warned
us only to watch from afar, we could get sucked in by the waves.
But inside my head, I was a ferocious warrior, ready to battle
the sea. I begged my brothers and sisters to play that we were
sailing on the open ocean, but they said that it was boring. I,
on the other hand, longed for the Open. One day, Mama brought us
outside, to the Open. She let us explore under a bush, and she
pointed out different things. I begged to go to the sea, but she
told me that it was too soon. We had to learn the forest first.
Then we went back to the burrow, and I nestled into Mama. She
sang me to sleep, and I thought of the sparkling, glittering,
sea. The thought of the waves, and Mama's song rocked me into
dreamland. I was going to the sea someday, I thought to myself.
       Someday.

I definitely liked it! You've got a way with words, and had a
very calming tone to it the whole time. Nice job ;D

A few weeks later, I awoke before the warm yellow sun crawled
over the mountains, which loomed in the distance. I stood and
blinked, clearing my small beady eyes of sleep. Today was a big
day. My littermates lay beside my mother, fast asleep in
dreamland. I would miss them, even though they never understood
me. I slipped out of the den after planting a small mouse kiss
upon my mother's head. I was off to see the world. I gathered
the things I had hidden in the tall, dew-laden grass. The
morning was young, and so was I. I had to move quickly, so I
found my things instantly. They were a small nutshell canteen, a
small satchel made from flexible bark, and a leaf shirt. I had a
food supply waiting for me beside the sea, so that my siblings
wouldn't discover it. I fastened the buttons of my shirt,
slipped on my satchel, and slung the canteen strap, a dandelion
stem, around me. My pink nose wiggled in the air as I sniffed
out the trail. I trotted quickly down the small mouse-sized path
to the sea. It was there from mice who had escaped ships long
ago that had shipwrecked here. Little dimples in the earthen
floor suggested small feet, pitter-pattering along the old
trail. I looked up, and ahead of me was the end of the forest. A
glimmering blue shape peeked through the openings in the
foliage, and I rushed toward it. I was standing on fine white
sand, and ahead of me, was the sea. The sight took my small
breath away, and I fell down into the soft sand. I stood, and
began to run to the water. I tripped over something white and
shiny, and fell on my nose. I spun around to see what had
hindered me, to see a seashell. My mother had taught me about
these, but I had never seen one before. I laid my paw on it, and
it was warm from the rosy sun that was beginning to rise. Then,
the shell moved. I jumped backwards, almost falling on my nose
again. Small reddish legs and antennae peeked out from beneath,
like some sort of bug. "Hello there! Can you tell me what you
are? Are you stuck?" , I asked politely. The strange creature
didn't answer, he just took another step away. "Are you stuck
under the shell?" , I asked again. No answer. I leaned forward,
and heard a gravelly voice coming from the creature. "Beat it,
kid. I'm a crab, I'm fine!" I was taken aback at his response,
but I figured I should 'beat it', like he had said. I rushed
away, towards the sea. I made sure to look where I was going,
this time. I didn't realize that dark storm clouds had covered
the sky until it began to downpour. I rushed into a nearby cave
in the rock face opposite the sea. They had also been made by
mice that had fled sinking ships, many years ago. I huddled in
the dark crevice. I was cold, wet, and hungry. My food supply
was too far to run to in the tempest. I curled up in a ball, and
covered myself with an extra leaf shirt. I took a long nap, for
it had been a very exhausting morning. I planned to get on the
       ship by evening.
