The Schoenner-Falk transformation

In my last tread on the EP Cosmos Nick popup the question if
there was interaction between the pre war, Nurnberg
manufacturers.

And to be clear, if I say pre war, I always mean pre 1940, and
that is also my domain of collecting.
I mentioned that Falk took over Schoenner in 1912.
I don't know why Jean Schoenner (*1851 - +1921) sold the factory
to Falk, my guess is, he just wanted to retire.

Anyway, what Falk bought was a big production company.
And you can Imagine that when you buy such a big company, you
not going to stop your predecessor work suddenly and shift over
to your own designs.
There will be a transition period where you use old casting
molds etc...
And I got a fine example of such a Schoenner - Falk engine.

Technically it's a Falk, you can see that clearly in the stamp
on the underside of the casted bace (JF = Jozef Falk)…

But the design of that casted base is still typical schoenner.
Here is the base of a late schoenner, so you can see the
identical design…

Now, you would think that this engine was produced direct after
Falk took over, but that is not true.
The engine was produced somewhere between 1928 and 1930.
This only points to that the moulds where a stock design and
where used whenever it sooted a new engine.
And speaking of copying an other manufacturer, the boiler design
is a vage copy of the by that time popular 10/13/.. Bing range.
Even more resembling is the 1909 130/75 Bing
Coming to the engine it self.
It's a Falk 474/1
The engine is still unrestored, but will get the proper
attention it needs, depending on my spear time the next coming
weeks.
Biggest issue is the axle.
It seem that it was dropped or squeezed, what ever, but it it
resulted in a bent crank.
The flywheel has such a bad wobble that you just can't run it.
Straiten it too reasonable proportions is not going to be easy.
The danger of breaking it is very high.
Best chance of success is to heat it up, this makes it more
flexible to bend but the danger of breaking stays high, so
fingers crossed.
Also the manometer has broken off only leaving the stem.
But fortunately I found an authentic replacement, that hopefully
will arrive next week.
The rest is pure cosmetics.
I will restore the nickeled band in-between the two embossed
bands on the top of the boiler, and some re blueing of the rest
of the boiler.
But overall it got the potential to become a nice gem again.
But that's for next time…

I can't be sure from that short video Danny, but it does look
like it is the crank that is bent, at least more so than the
flywheel. But perhaps I'm being deceived and it really is both.
Whatever the case, I certainly hope you are able to bring that
wonderful machine back into a very good useable condition!

Succes!!!
By heating it up I managed to to bend it strait again.
First by pure rough bending by hand, always under heat of corse
and after fine tuned it on my lathe also there under heat.
But I have to say this is no rocket science, and there is no
guarantee for succes.
If the axle had hair cracks the chance that it would have broken
in this case was for 95%
But should it have been broken It still could have been
repaired, but with much more work than now was applied
Anyway it's strait again, and I'm happy…

Well, it's ready.
There is still a bit of wobble in the flywheel but this is
acceptable.
The base is repainted as it should look, and the boiler blued.
