       Changing flywheels.
       By: Tony Bird Date: July 31, 2019, 11:01 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hi,
       Let us see if I can make a better job of getting the the
       photographs in order than I did in my last post.
       While having a bit of a clear out I found a large flywheel, well
       isn't a flywheel exactly it was possibly a pulley that had a
       belt from some form of machine. I probably bought it at a club
       bring and buy sale some time ago as a come in useful item. It is
       8" in diameter and 1.1/2" wide.
       Some time ago I built a Beam engine from charity shop bits and
       pieces and used a pair of wheels from a brass canon as
       flywheels, these flywheels were a little small so the engine
       runs quicker than it should. Alas this flywheel is too big to
       replace them. However it could be fitted to a vertical engine
       that I made and the flywheels from this could be fitted to the
       Beam engine.
       Vertical engine.
       [attachimg=1]
       With 'New' flywheel.
       [attachimg=2]
       The Beam engine.
       [attachimg=3]
       With Vertical engine flywheels.
       [attachimg=4]
       [attachimg=5]
       So the idea is to clean up the 'New' flywheel' and fit it to the
       Vertical engine and if I like the result if its flywheels to the
       beam engine. So today I made a start on the flywheel; it was
       cleaned of paint, the large securing hole was plugged and it
       was fitted to a face plate to make the centre bosses smaller and
       concentric.
       [attachimg=6]
       The machining finished it was painted with primer.
       [attachimg=7]
       I now have to bush the centre so that it will fit a smaller
       axle.
       Regards.
       Tony.
       Getting better the photographs in order but need to get text to
       line up with them though!
