Thanks Stuart #Post#: 15514-------------------------------------------------- Re: Bowman steam boats By: Tony Bird Date: October 1, 2019, 3:04 am --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Stuart, I think they were made of pine about 5/16" thick. I don't know if the early models were steamed to bend the sides sides but the later models Eagle. Snipe and Swallow were cut curved from a block of wood. The Eagle was the largest and cut first from a block of wood and the curved surface left on the block became the outside of the Snipe which after being cut became the outside of the Swallow. So, three hulls descending in size were cut from single block of wood. The hull bottom was about 1/8" plywood. I have made three copies of an Eagle and a couple of a Swallow but I steam bent the sides. (HTM) https://youtu.be/ZkjxqZwaDV8 I hope this is useful.
