ADDED ENDURANCE TEST VIDEO By: therat05 Date: September 17, 2019, 4:09 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Recently i had the good fortune to be given this rather sad and rare 110 year old Doll 378/1 engine covered in its thick Black paint overcoat , who can do this to an engine. I had a picture of a Doll of the same type and could see the attractive colour it should be. So began the long job of refurbishment, the whole boiler looked as if it had been in a cricket match... as the ball, the end caps both leaked water and steam so had to be removed, the water filler bush and the steam pipe bush and pipe all were loose and leaking so removed....next was the boiler which has to be unsoldered from the fire box as it is attached by lugs. The boiler was patched and repaired the bushes resoldered the end caps cleaned and re soldered back onto the boiler, then the boiler resoldered back onto the firebox taking care not to melt the endcaps solder....this was followed by many hours of solder removal and polishing. The base had so much Black paint on it that it took 3 coats of paint remover to get it off back to bare metal, it was then degreased and 2 coats of Hycote spray primer applied followed by 3 coats of Hycote Red gloss , this model had a lined edge to the base this was in Bright Yellow gloss .... i did this free hand using Humbrol enamel paint. The last job was to solder the very thin steam pipe back on... a tricky job but luckily i have done many steam pipe soldering jobs so it was completed first time, after a test on air the engine was steamed ..... Here is the video of it in steam followed by some pictures of the journey....Steve (HTM) https://youtu.be/_oXTEPTDDv0 ENDURANCE TEST IF YOU CANT SLEEP THIS IS THE VIDEO FOR YOU 😂 I REDUCED THE AMOUNT OF WATER IN THE BOILER AND THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM OF CUTTING OUT AFTER 30 SECONDS ON START UP.... HERE IS 8 MINUTES OF PERFECT CONTINUOUS RUNNING FROM THIS 110 YEAR OLD DOLL 378/1 (HTM) https://youtu.be/8fBZ29RQyPM [attachimg=1][attachimg=2][attachimg=3][attachimg=4][attachimg=5 ][attachimg=6][attachimg=7][attachimg=8][attachimg=9][attachimg= 10] #Post#: 15153-------------------------------------------------- Re: RARE DOLL 378/1 BACK TO STEAM By: Scorpion2nz Date: September 17, 2019, 7:17 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Well that scrubbed up well .
