I'm intrigued by it.🤔 (HTM) https://youtu.be/X18vOlFOol8 #Post#: 43444-------------------------------------------------- Re: Wilesco D70 steam boat By: classixs Date: June 24, 2021, 3:45 am --------------------------------------------------------- From a pure collector perspective it naturally is interesting, being their only complete launch offered, which also often is reflected in the pricetags. Personally i find it too simple with itīs D3 boiler/D15 engine, and from a launch perspective on par with a well built Midwest Heritage kit. #Post#: 43446-------------------------------------------------- Re: Wilesco D70 steam boat By: St Paul Steam Date: June 24, 2021, 7:04 am ---------------------------------------------------------
From a pure collector perspective it naturally is interesting, being their only complete launch offered, which also often is reflected in the pricetags.
I much agree Jan , the D3 boiler with its minuscule capacity & its impossible to view water level sight glass bubbles. I do fancy making an "African Queen " type steam vessel though. #Post#: 43456-------------------------------------------------- Re: Wilesco D70 steam boat By: ShadetreeMotorcycle Date: June 24, 2021, 11:47 am --------------------------------------------------------- It seems like if you found a D70 for a great price and upgrade the boiler would be an option. I found this built model of African Queen on ebay, I believe it is plastic hull with wood decking and non functional steam engine. Plastic models are often converted to RC but I suppose some extra care would be needed to protect from the heat of steam power, a wooden boat is better suited to take some heat. The model in the ad is built, the kit can be had for less $ Just throwing out ideas 8) (HTM) https://www.ebay.com/itm/264949837369?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAAAkM8QNXBvFUaJT3tZrf3mjkPXGEZ3cNIV0TzTCEcZ6o8mKkYcCFbm%2BjHV9HIqZa8PJFdHVcQ5%2FoqVpQO2nLa2uPkrlWKZCOiOdPmB3Vv3zUfoYNcPvGNmDAX2aNVssVYl8QUnUqfxpI2b75QAdIU02x79O3si3DbU14rZ%2FWj0yQXQNwIpLXl1ssAIvCmfpzP0AA%3D%3D&chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=264949837369&targetid=1262407448300&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9017440&poi=&campaignid=12873932325&mkgroupid=116682574250&rlsatarget=pla-1262407448300&abcId=9300536&merchantid=113689133&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt5mu7NWw8QIVqf_ICh2NgAwdEAQYBSABEgI9bfD_BwE Update: the ebay ad "claims" hand built wood hull, however I have found kits that say ABS hull with wood decking so I do not know if the ebay ad is correct? Here is a photo if the ebay ad goes away [attachimg=1] #Post#: 43458-------------------------------------------------- Re: Wilesco D70 steam boat By: St Paul Steam Date: June 24, 2021, 12:42 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Thanks Ben ,I have already had this on my radar & have contacted the seller yesterday & inquired if it was indeed "seaworthy " or just a model , he replied back to me but never answered my question. If it is seaworthy that would put me ahead of the game & all I would need to do is rig it with the proper equipment. #Post#: 43459-------------------------------------------------- Re: Wilesco D70 steam boat By: St Paul Steam Date: June 24, 2021, 12:54 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Maybe I need to build a Jensen powered boat....hummm what could we call her ...? #Post#: 43462-------------------------------------------------- Re: Wilesco D70 steam boat By: ShadetreeMotorcycle Date: June 24, 2021, 3:23 pm ---------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I need to build a Jensen powered boat....hummm what could we call her ...? Have you decided on a Hull yet? #Post#: 43466-------------------------------------------------- Re: Wilesco D70 steam boat By: CBWho Date: June 24, 2021, 11:32 pm --------------------------------------------------------- I made a steam powered skiff but I admit I'm not exactly satisfied with the Heritage powered contraption. I'm looking for a reasonable set up for playing with in a lake with my son. The nearby lake is perfect for it as the beach is very shallow area and the water is crystal clear. ***************************************************** (DIR) Next Page
