But if they were, then I saved you a lot of money! This little dynamo was designed to run a very early train set. I assume if the owner had electric in his home, he simply would have purchased a transformer to run the train. Perhaps it was not available yet, or perhaps many people did not have electricity in their homes in the early 1900's. This dynamo would have demanded something to run it at 1200 rpm to produce ten volts. I intend to run it off either my vertical or horizontal quarter-horse Sipps engine. A train set from this era would have been a substantial investment in its day. Runs smooth and quiet! Here’s one we found while digging through an estate last year. It was sitting in the wooden tool carrier circled in red. #Post#: 47283-------------------------------------------------- Re: Carlisle Finch #27 Dynamo By: crazydoug Date: December 8, 2021, 5:43 pm ---------------------------------------------------------
That’s a great piece, Doug! Here’s one we found while digging through an estate last year. It was sitting in the wooden tool carrier circled in red.
Wow! Well worth digging around for, and i bet a lot cheaper than mine! By the way, I had a chance to see the motor you traded for my ebay mystery model steam engine plant. It showed up at Coolspring where I almost bought it, but someone else didn't take as long to consider it as I did! The engine and the motor were both great items.
Bruce, The 1/2 hp sipps takes up half of my wife's kitchen counter top, so i don't get to run it much, but the vertical should run it! #Post#: 48400-------------------------------------------------- Re: Carlisle Finch #27 Dynamo By: txlabman Date: January 11, 2022, 3:10 pm --------------------------------------------------------- A really nice piece. Have you had a chance to test it as a Dynamo? #Post#: 48403-------------------------------------------------- Re: Carlisle Finch #27 Dynamo By: Quickj Date: January 11, 2022, 6:36 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Agree with everyone else, this is a really nice piece. I normally don't look for motors or generators at the sales I attend, but I think I will start. *****************************************************
