       Jin's FD5 Dynamo Review
By: crazydoug Date: April 27, 2022, 1:14 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
This came the other day, and I thought I would do a review and
do some testing to see if it met the specs advertised. Sadly,
it didn't even come close. It is rated up to 1 amp at 12 volts,
and although it easily attained the 12 volts at about 2000 rpm,
it would only light one 200 milliamp incandescent bulb. I
started with four bulbs in parallel at 200 milliamps each and it
would not light them at all, and then went down, one step at a
time, until there was only one bulb left, which it did light.
However, if you intend to use this generator in a model display
with incandescent lighting, you'll be disappointed. However, it
will operate a number of smaller LED lamps. 250 milliamps seems
to be the extent of the load it can carry.
Still, I'm very happy with the generator. It has a nice look,
is a nice size for model engine displays, and has a price that
       can't be beat.

PM Research has one that is rated at 10 VDC @ 1A. Nice
industrial look to it. Needs a large engine to power it to its
       max.

I have 2 of those. I machined the first one and decided it was
worth the extra $$ to buy the next one ready to run. They work
well, but I have never really done a load test.
