When will clubs learn that good player doesn’t equal good
       manager.

       Shrek has been appointed….
I’d be interested to hear the views of the Plymouth contingent
       who frequent these boards.

At least he correctly forecast the score in today's FA Cup Final
whilst acting as a pundit for the Beeb. There's hope for
       Plymouth yet!

Presumably Plymouth didn't ask for a reference from Birmingham
who now compete in division 1.
I hope it works out for Plymouth but I fear for them, another
       difficult season coming up perhaps?

Birmingham got 0.67 points per game under Rooney, over the
course of a season that would be 30/31 and certain relegation.
Sacking John Eustace was a ludicrous decision, and Birmingham
got everything they deserved, I suspect Plymouth will go the
       same way.
Rather than going for a big name ex-player, Sheffield Wednesday
went for a 34 year old with no previous management experience,
and he averaged 1.43 points per game at a team who were rock
bottom when he took over. Sooner or later clubs will realise
that top level playing experience doesn't necessarily mean they
will be a top level manager

Just look at Klopp… didn’t have a stellar playing careeer (only
Mainz for 325 games) and was never capped by Germany…

Exactly, lots of top managers didn't have stellar playing
careers. Mourinho, Tuchel, Wenger, Houlier, Sacchi, Nagelsman,
etc. And probably the most notable of all, Carlos Alberto
Parreira who won the World Cup having never played a minute of
       professional football.

Initial reaction was what you’d expect - shock, disbelief,
concern etc. That seems to be receding a bit though - some eye
catching loan signings from Europe and Rooney making all the
right noises locally, and calling us “Argyle” already which is
       crucial.
Of course, not a ball kicked yet. It’s worth noting that the
bookies rated only Oxford as more likely to be relegated even
before he arrived, and that we survived only on the last day of
last season. So expectations are not high in any event.
       We move on…
