Fiore is doing one hell of a job selling Stony Brook and it's facilities, he he has really done well. #Post#: 3306-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lacrosse News By: joewillie Date: October 9, 2012, 12:40 pm --------------------------------------------------------- UNC Grants Nicky Galasso a Release; To Transfer for Spring CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -University of North Carolina junior attackman Nicky Galasso (West Islip, N.Y.) has been granted a release to explore transfer options effective immediately, UNC head men's lacrosse coach Joe Breschi announced Tuesday. Galasso has indicated he plans to complete the fall semester academically at UNC before transferring for the spring semester to another NCAA Division I lacrosse program. "Obviously, it's disappointing to have a young man like Nicky leave our program. We appreciate all that he has brought to Carolina lacrosse over the past two years and we wish him the best of luck both academically and athletically at his new school. Nicky leaves here in great academic standing and we're proud of the way he achieved in the classroom at UNC," said Breschi. As a freshman in 2011, Galasso was the ACC Freshman of the Year, just the fourth in UNC history, and a third-team USILA All-America atattack. He led UNC in scoring with 56 points that season including 24 goals and a UNC freshman record 32 assists. After breaking his foot in November 2011, Galasso returned to the Tar Heels in February 2012 but was never at full strength during the course of the season. He saw action last year in a reserve role and as an extra-man specialist as junior Marcus Holman and freshmen Jimmy Bitter and Joey Sankey played the starting roles on the attack unit. All three of those players return to the Carolina lineup this season. Galasso had six goals and three assists for nine points while playing in 13 games last season. #Post#: 3308-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lacrosse News By: Chrissy D. Date: October 9, 2012, 12:55 pm --------------------------------------------------------- This was the worst kept secret in the country. His family pushed for a redsirt last year after he was injured, and when he did not get it and was rushed on the field for a secondary role everybody knew this was coming. If Stony Brook is able to land him it will be the biggest piece to the puzzle. This guy is known all over the country and his talent level is just as big as his name. If I were a betting man I'd say he comes to the Brook. #Post#: 3309-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lacrosse News By: Chairman of the Board Date: October 9, 2012, 1:03 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Wow does anyone have anything though that is more than just conjecture? I mean, of course SB would be a fit on many levels- departed attackmen, lots of $$$ (not sure how much is tied up though), hometown, instant contributor, academic fit, play in front of the family, etc. But a player of his caliber would have to get looks from other places i would think. Anyone hear anything??? #Post#: 3310-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lacrosse News By: Chairman of the Board Date: October 9, 2012, 1:35 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Well, lets wait and see. But uncorroborated early reports on LP say Hofstra: (HTM) http://network.laxpower.com/laxforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47167&p=1031191#p1031191 (HTM) http://network.laxpower.com/laxforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40417&p=1031188#p1031188 #Post#: 3311-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lacrosse News By: Chrissy D. Date: October 9, 2012, 1:42 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Just speculating but like you said everything fits. Two of his high school buddies just left Hofstra, not happy with the coach, so you would think he would not go there. We can only hope that he sees the recent success of others after they transfer and come to Stony Brook. I think Hofstra has lost alot of sizzle on the island and kids see that the Brook is the place to be. #Post#: 3312-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lacrosse News By: joewillie Date: October 9, 2012, 1:42 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Nagle has to keep this kid in the 631... Hofstra has always been the school that was rumored but if he wants to stay home he should really look at what the Brook has to offer. Hofstra is a dump. #Post#: 3313-------------------------------------------------- Re: Lacrosse News By: Chrissy D. Date: October 9, 2012, 1:48 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Hofstra is like old soda pop, it's lost it's fizz. Stadium is a dump. If he wants to stay home and win it should be easy for him to choose SB. I am no longer concerned with Hofstra stealing recruits. We have passed them in every aspect of our sports program. He could be the next in line of local legends ( Jackolski, Maysonette ) to put a stamp on there career at SB. ***************************************************** (DIR) Next Page
