8. Kylie Ohlmiller, Stony Brook, So., A
After Stony Brook coach Joe Spallina had a phenomenal year on
all fronts, most recently winning the MLL championship with the
New York Lizards, his focus has shifted entirely to the
Seawolves, hoping to improve the program by leaps and bounds
from what they accomplished in 2015 – a program-best 18 wins and
the No. 6 seed in the NCAA tournament. A lot of the team's
success had to do with freshman Kylie Ohlmiller's performance as
she finished with a team-high 86 points. She is a well-rounded
attacker who might just be the dark horse for this highest
honor.
Stony Brook coach Joe Spallina on Ohlmiller: "Kylie is a
world-class talent with unparalleled stick skills that stormed
onto the national front last year. A great quality she has is
that the bigger the game, the bigger her performance!"

This team could be our first National Championship Team that we
are hoping for.
Think about this for a brief moment: It is well within
reason to argue that Stony Brook's program-record 18-win season
was reflective of the lowest-performing team Joe Spallina
coached in 2015.
Certainly, the Seawolves put together a monster year. They won
18 games and captured the America East title for a third
straight season, earning a seed and home game in the NCAA
tournament for the first time in program history. But they
suffered a home loss to Princeton in that second-round contest —
only the second time a team had bested them last spring — but a
season-ending loss nontheless.
Stony Brook isn't going to sneak up on anyone this year, but
they won't really have to. The cupboard is very, very well
stocked as the team works through the fall. Of seven players to
earn All-America East honors last spring, six are back,
including all five first-team selections.

When lifts became a regular routine for Michelle Rubino
as a freshman at Stony Brook, she immediately fell in love with
them and started planning for a bodybuilding career. By the fall
season of junior year, she was doing extra weightlifting outside
of team lifts, and by senior year, coach Joe Spallina joked that
her arms were officially bigger than his.

Stony Brook's a team that reloads just like the Marylands
and Carolinas of the world. They're on a mission to go further
in the NCAA tournament after a disappointing – and somewhat
unexpected – loss to Princeton in the second round after
securing a bye as the No. 6 seed.
"We want to win a national championship. We want to get to the
final four," Spallina said. "We just have to keep our nose to
the stone and continue to improve like we have in the past four
seasons."
It's rare for underclassmen – let alone a freshman – to be named
a Tewaaraton nominee, but with a team-high 86 points for the
unexpected "underdog" Stony Brook – that broke the top five of
Lacrosse Magazine's rankings for the first time in program
history – Ohlmiller was hard not to notice. And she still has
three seasons to go. As people like to say regarding young stars
in the game, that's scary. She's the dark horse for the
Tewaaraton again in 2016.
Joe Spallina’s team ran through the competition in 2015 with
monumental wins over Florida (12-11), Northwestern (11-9) and
Notre Dame (9-5). The Seawolves return five preseason
All-Americans this spring, headlined by sophomore Kylie
Ohlmiller (42G, 44A), as they’ll look to make another run
through the America East en route to the NCAA Tournament in
2016.
