       Rye Playland 2019 Trip
By: Mrceagle Date: July 8, 2019, 10:33 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
For the first time in about 10 years I'm at Rye Playland. This
classic themed park has an art deco style to its buildings and a
lot of charm. This is very noticeable in the main entry way by
the ice Casino and the main midway. I was visiting with my
brothers, sister in law, nieces, and nephew. The trip took us a
bit over 3.5 hours which is a reason we don't visit often. but
boy was it good to be back.
Today I'm getting a new coaster credit. Being a special event I
was able to ride the parks wooden kiddie coaster. The coaster
was built by NAD, National Amusement Devices and its Oval layout
circles a number of the parks kiddie coasters. the parks large
kids area overflows in front of the coaster and back to the back
side of the park with a few family options such as the Playland
       Express train.
Despite its small lift hill it has a good amount of speed. Only
one hill offers a good pop. The smooth layout is perfect for the
kids and the scaled down trains are a think of beauty. The park
owns 2 trains but only operated one for the event. It's rare to
see a manually operated coasters now a days but this coaster has
a load and unload section that required 2 operators to brake the
train. The train consists of 3 cars with a single bench capable
of holding 2 rider each. Seat belts have been added. The safety
bar simple drops down and doesn't lock in any way.
After a few rides on this hard to get credit it was off to the
parks star roller coaster the Dragon Coaster. This old school
wood coaster in build in the far front corner of the park. The
coaster is also build around the parks Old Mill dark ride, more
on that ride later. This coaster like the Kiddie coaster is a
ACE coaster landmark. It features Morgan trains Which are unique
but not all that comfortable. They have a single locking
position for all 4 seats in the car. The coaster itself is tall
but not all that fast. many might think of this as more of a
family coaster. I managed to get 3 rides in during the morning
event and it was our last ride of the night.
Fun thing, there are 2 dragon heads on top of the 2 square
towers by the coasters entrance. It took us a bit of time to
remember but they are the ends of the parks removed Sea Dragon
       ride.
After the ERT we met back up for a group photo and then it was
on to a full day at the park. We stayed from opening till 10:00
and managed to hit nearly every ride at the park. We skipped a
few but took in extra rides on a few notable attraction such as
the parks dark rides and the Whip. Weather was hot and clear for
the most park but there was a small storm mid day and rain
around 9:00pm as we were wrapping up our day.
The park had reasonably good success maintenance wise. We only
saw a few rides down. The Sky Skater went down but thankfully
after we road it. I really like this ride and I'm surprised the
attraction really hasn't taken off but its good to see the park
continue to operate this rare attraction. The parks Classic PTC
Carousel was closed but it was announced it would not be open
this year. The carousel building still hasn't been repaired
which is strange since there mostly seems to be damage to the
back corner which is only noticeable from the YoYo.The Kite
Flyer was closed but for a good reason. The reason the Kite
Flyer was closed is it is now relocated while the park installs
a new ride. A Zamperla Disco attraction is in the process of
being added where the Kite Flyer once sat.

Rye is a wonderful park, quirky, but fun. While Dragon coaster
isn't an intense coaster, its still fun, especially going into
the dragons mouth! Love the dark rides as well! Such a fun
place, I hope their future is bright and does some expanding of
       rides and refreshing the park

Well, they finally saw a new ride. The disco is not a big ride
but it's still something new and the GP seem to like it at LC so
I'm sure it will be well-liked at Playland.
I was able to get video fo the rides and I have been uploading
them under the Playland topic here on the forums.
