       Evening visit on 7/25/2019
By: Swissbob Date: July 26, 2019, 4:57 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I had a relatively brief, but really enjoyable time at the park
yesterday. It's been a little tough trying to schedule a visit
with my usual cohorts, my cousin and her family. But yesterday
we managed a very pleasant late afternoon / early evening visit.
We arrived at the park around 5:15 in the afternoon. It was very
warm out (mid 80's), especially in the sun. The amount of cars
in the lot told us there was a good but not overwhelming crowd
of people in attendance. As we walked in there were a lot of
people leaving. This was a good sign for us, the park was only
open to 8:30 so hopefully lines wouldn't be very long.
As it turns out, the amount of people in the park was just about
perfect. There were enough people there to make it festive, but
lines were really short. And this went for waiting in line for
       food and drink too.
After getting in several rides for my cousins kids (a boy and a
girl aged almost seven and almost six) we decided to head over
to Wicked Cyclone. This would be my very first time on this
ride. I was able to ride in the past, but my weight had me "just
on the cusp" and I wanted to feel comfortable when riding it.
The idea of a coaster with inversions but no over the head
restraints.....it just weirded me out. I dropped fifty pounds in
the past year and sure enough, there was room to spare! My
cousin unfortunately has had the opposite happen to her, she got
in the test seat and I had to push down on the lap bar for her
to be able to get the green light. She decided to chance it, in
spite of the possibility of the "walk of shame".
We walked through the queue and discovered that the line started
in the station house! This would be about a two train wait! My
cousin and I were really excited......... and then we saw the
seat belts! We didn't notice any on the test seat, but now my
poor cousin had one more hurdle to worry about. And we had time
to worry, the trains weren't loading very fast. It seems people
are not supposed to touch the restraint bar until told to do so,
it some how screws up the system. The poor young woman in charge
was on her microphone constantly reminding people not to touch
the lap bar. Soon it was our turn, and I'm proud that our train
load did exactly as told, putting on their seatbelts (which fit
my cousin!!!) but letting the attendants lower the lap bar.
Suddenly the ride operator called out a number and sure enough,
a ride attendant was trying to give an extra push to my cousins
lap bar. It WORKED! Next thing you know we're going up that
extremely steep lift hill and then WOOOOSH!!! How did I like it?
I loved it. No, sorry, I LOVED IT. What a great coaster, and a
worthy companion to Superman. To have two such magnificent rides
in one park, it just blows my mind. When we were on the break
run the women in the seat ahead of us turned around and gave me
the ultimate "coaster lover" compliment. They said they've been
riding Wicked Cyclone since it opened, but listening to me (I
was babbling my second thoughts all up the lift, and screaming
my love all through the ride) made them appreciate it more by
seeing it again through "new eyes". I was happy to oblige!
After a few more kid friendly rides we headed over to
Thunderbolt. My cousin and her husband had taken the kids on
Thunderbolt for their first time only a month ago, and they
really loved it. We had the usual wait, one train operation is
not conducive to quick load times. We get on, my cousins
daughter and me in the last seat, she and her son in the one
just ahead of us. But this time the coaster gods did not bless
my cousin, she couldn't close the seat belt. I've been there
(mostly on Superman) myself, and felt terrible for her. So her
son had to ride alone. Long story short, the kids hated it. The
daughter cried through half the ride, and her brother was upset
because she was upset. Moral of the story, a much loved adult
cousin is no replacement for mom and dad.
We headed down to DC Comics and one more time the coaster gods
did not smile on my cousin. The lap bar showed green, but again
the seat belt couldn't be closed. My cousin decided to take the
kids on Gotham City Gauntlet and Catwoman's Whip while I rode
solo. The line started in that last row at the bottom of the
stairs into the station. This was great to see. I was in the
station after a couple of minutes and headed over to the last
seat. A minute later a kid in his 20's stood behind me. I smiled
and nodded my head, my way of non verbally saying you can join
me if you wish. The blue train awaited and then
suddenly......the dreaded loading of fast pass people! Two
people walked down chose the second to last seats. I felt bad
for the fellows waiting for that row, but my new coaster
companion and I had been spared. Suddenly two MORE people walk
in our direction........they took the seats ahead of the first
two people! Spared again! But then TWO MORE flash pass people
walk to our end.... . That was it, our seats were taken. I
turned to my 20 something year old coaster companion, raised my
hands in frustration, and said a not nice word that rhymes with
"stuck". My coaster companion burst into laughter, telling me
how he always counts the people ahead to see if he'll have the
non vibrating blue train and that this sort of thing always
happens to him. I laugh and tell him I've been riding Superman
since it opened and I still do the same thing. We get on the
next (red) train and had a fantastic time. On the brake run he
said to me what I said to my cousin last year after a spin on
Superman, that no matter what great new rides they introduce,
Superman is the reason he get's a season pass every year. To
hear my own words spoken back to me almost verbatim and a year
later, well I just hope Six Flags cherishes what they have for
decades to come. I told my coaster companion to have a great
rest of his night and as he walked away it occurred to me that
that was the first time in my life that I had introduced myself
with a vulgarity. Thankfully young people tend to be more
       forgiving.
It was getting late (well, in relation to closing time) so my
cousin took her daughter down to Crime Wave while her son and I
decided to try out Cyborg. This was our longest wait of the
evening, and frankly it seemed interminable. Cyborg better be
pretty fun. As it turned out........ it was! What a great
addition to the park! Similar to the old Joker's Wildcard (now
Kryptonite Kollider) but facing out, it has all the great forces
that ride had when being run on "full" but without the outer
seated person getting crushed. And the room was nice and dark
for the light show that accompanied the ride. With this addition
I personally would replace Kryptonite with some other new ride.
And speaking of a DC Comics revamp, I also wouldn't mind seeing
Gotham City Gauntlet go, but maybe that's just me.
We let the kids wind down in Kidzopolis. I just sat there
enjoying watching the kids enjoy themselves, and the beautiful
night (and a soft serve ice cream). This was late in the season
for me to go my first time, but we had a really great time and
are planning another visit in a couple more weeks.

Nice report. We like to got to SFNE in the evening too. It
just seems so much less hectic. Those folks coming thru the
exit and taking your row are not flash pass people. Flash Pass
folks enter right at the turnstiles and then once in the
station, enter the gates just like the regular lines. Those
folks would have been special needs or someone with an exit pass
       for some reason.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought of that. I never use
Flashpass so I never really pay attention to where they enter.

It sounds like a good tri.
I have visited the park with my 2 nieces and nephew and its
always fun. Though with 3 of them one of us has to ride Krypton
Collider since it requires both seats to be filled.

I had forgotten about the "both seats filled" requirement.
That's another plus in favor of Cyborg.

What's sad is they are the only park that does this with their
wipe out LC and Canboie don't and they run theirs faster then
       SFNE.
