Despite the fact I have followed the event almost every year and
known about it for years I have yet to actually visit.

We go often but not every year. The selections of food is
immense! Some of our favorites are Maine Baked Potato at the
Maine exposition, Cream Puffs, and Fried Everything!! LOL The
free circus used to be very good but the last two times not that
great. There are tons of other free shows throughout the day
too. All in all it is worth the trip. My advice is to go early
       - like right at opening. The traffic and parking gets insane
fast (even an hour after opening) and later in the day it can be
       impossible.

Traffic is always crazy getting into the parking area, not sure
if I'm planning on going or not this year.
My favorite thing is the smoked salmon from Maine (I believe
it's Maine but I haven't been in a couple years) and the loaded
       baked potatoes

After skipping last year due to Covid, The Big E is back! It
runs thru Oct 3. We spent the day there today and had a great
day. The circus was vastly better than the last couple times
and we enjoyed it. We toured the state houses and had the
traditional Maine Baked potato. The Midway was vibrant and we
rode a couple of new to us coasters.
The highlight of the day was participating in the parade. We
bought a spot on a Mardi Gras float to throw the beads to the
crowd. It was so much fun! We finished the day with some
fried pickles that were very good.
The rain pretty much held off all day until we were driving
home. I would recommend a visit to all. You will find that
admission is reasonable, lots of free entertainment, food is
       pricey.
