I arrived at the park a little after 1 PM with my cousin, her husband, and their two kids. The skies were blue, the sun was shining (perhaps too much) and the temperature was expected to hit the mid 80's, which it easily did. Actually, I think it surpassed it. At times it was almost uncomfortable, especially in the sun. We took the kids on a couple of family rides first, such as the Merry-Go-Round, which is now playing somber organ music in honor of Fright Fest. This was a fun way to start our visit, and it set the tone for the rest of the day. We headed down to the south end of the park. My cousin's husband hadn't yet ridden Spinsanity, so we got in line and had to wait about three cycles. Not bad! Soon we were seated and the ride began. George (my cousin's husband) said to me, "Hey this isn't that bad." Of course we were barely 30 seconds into the ride. His tune changed as we got higher and faster. As we started to swing out to the highest point he started asking something, I couldn't tell what, so I yelled to him to close his eyes and it wouldn't be so bad. He did, and it wasn't. When we got off the ride he said that it just didn't look like that big a deal looking up at it, but the ride was MUCH more intense when you're actually experiencing it. In any case he liked it, but he said he'd approach it with a lot more respect next time. We all took turns with the kids so that we could make sure the adults in the group got in the thrill rides of their choice. I have to admit, I was really missing Buzz Saw, would have been good for one more ride the kids could join us on. Multiple trips on Teacups and Crime Wave had to make do. George and my cousin had a fairly short wait for Joker, which I had no interest in riding. We managed a few times on both Riddler and Batman, both of which were practically a walk on. I don't mean to imply that crowds were light, they weren't. But the crowd was spread out all over, so no ride had a long wait. After some rides for the kids in Kidzopolis, we walked down to the DC area. George and I entered the line for Superman and walked all the way up the stairs into the station house. We had a three train wait for the last seat. Ride ops were doing a great job, and the train in the station would leave on it's journey while the other was somewhere in the helices. Soon we were climbing the lift hill on the red train, it was an outstanding ride! Perhaps because of the heat it felt faster than usual. And I suddenly and unexpectingly found the restraints to be comfortable. The only thing better would be a front seat view. So we did it all over again, waiting about 15 minutes for the front of......yet again.......the red train. The only negative I can say is during the helices some of the trains wheels sound like they really need some oil, it's a really noticeable squeal. We finished up the area with rides on Catwoman's Whip and Cyborg. Thunderbolt and Scream had fairly large wait times. That never seems to be unusual for them, even with a more manageable crowd like yesterday. Walking north we were stopped by roping in the vicinity of the Looney Tunes area. All foot traffic north and south had to wait for the beginning of a Fright Fest show before they lowered the ropes, which couldn't happen soon enough. When kids start crying from the loudness, it's time to turn down the sound system. Soon we were on Pandemonium, one of my personal favorites. It did not disappoint. My cousin took the kids for another circuit on Pandemonium while George and I got the first seat on Wicked Cyclone. Like Superman, the first seat was about a 15 minute wait, and worth every minute of it. I still can't believe we have two such excellent coasters like Supes and Cyclone in one location. There was one small problem, Cyclone was closed down for a few minutes because a man injured his head on it. Apparently at the brake run he leaned far enough forward that his forehead hit the top of the seat ahead. In any case WC was closed only for a few minutes. We finished our day in Crackaxel Canyon, which just might be my favorite area of the park. I avoided Goliath, but you can't keep me off the Stampede Bumper Cars. I just wish they'd leave Houdini alone. It's theme is perfect for Fright Fest and they could find some other place for a walk through haunt. Well it was no longer "getting dark"......it was dark! The creatures of the night were all over the place and with little kids we thought this was the perfect time to leave. I'm looking forward to going at least one more time for Fright Fest. Hopefully with pleasant fall air and not a rerun of midsummer like yesterday. #Post#: 1224-------------------------------------------------- Re: Really fun (and warm!) visit on 9-23-19 By: dellice45 Date: September 30, 2019, 9:46 am --------------------------------------------------------- Great report! Yeah its been unusually warm this time of the year, which makes me think we are in for a brutal winter lol IN anywise glad to see you have fun and glad you didn't ride Goliath as IM on team please rip it down ! Houdini is a great ride that doesn't get enough attention from park guests! I do enjoy the haunt inside, but get what you're saying, though I think they should really fix the effects or honestly dump it. I would hate to loose that attraction myself, just doesn't get the TLC it needs! I do wish they would retheme the haunt to something new, but they do love their midnight Mansion! I do see in the future CAC getting retimed to a steam punk theme as parks with CAC have started doing that as kids don't jive with the old west! I mean I love it and grew up with it! Kids today don't know what they are missing! I am sure the cooler air will start hitting us soon! *****************************************************
