What would help make Haunted Hay Rides Better?

We have been talking about this in the New England Haunts, but
realize there are hayrides all over the country. A common
complaint is them not being really scary, more for the big sets
and the show. What do you think would help them with the big
sets and the big show add to the scare? are you jsut happy
       sitting going for the ride?
Myself, not a fan because they paths are narrow, but they are
for safety, but nothing I find really scary, could a good
storyline and immersion work better to be part of the story?
       what do you guys think?

I'm glad you took my suggestion about starting a topic for this
       topic
Overall I enjoy hayrides. I've only done a few Wishes Woods,
Soppky word in 2 locations, a charity haunt back in GA, and
Charming fair farms (multiple versions). I agree they don't tend
to be scary. In fact, some never try to be all that scary The
old Full circuit hayride at Charming fair was a mix of light
Horror and campy storylines that in the end ended up being very
       fun.
My first ever haunted hayride was the original Spooky World. So
this set the standard which I compared all future hayrides to.
This attraction was drastically different from the ones I have
seen now. even the new Spooky World. They have multiple
buildings that were very well themed and small sets in which the
hayride stopped at. it has some scares but the scenes were more
theatrical. a Sweeny Tod set wen the barber slit a man's throat
and blood sprayed across the room. The Giliteen, etc.
That aside Where things were done rite in that first one was
plenty of sets and things to look at. No dead space. This is
something most newer ones get wrong. they make then longer
bragging its a mile long for example but there is only a handful
of sets. Might as well be a half-mile and spend more time in the
sets. makes no sense to brag about the length is half of it is
       just trees or field.
