I can't believe they were able to demo all of them and install Bobsled in that area. Same with SFNE when they demolish an entire racetrack and add all the rides/ Superman in 1 offseason. Anyways just wish Great Escape would have documented the construction better back then. Same with removing a mountain for Nightmare. #Post#: 2310-------------------------------------------------- Re: Old picnic area/ Alpine Bobsled install By: Mrceagle Date: May 13, 2020, 9:30 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Honestly, I didn't even know there was a picnic grove int eh area beforehand. Don't remember seeing it on maps. The conversion of the racetrack was not as difficult as you might think. It only has seating on one side the side that the arena was on. it was a flat track so it was really just quick ground-clearing. installing buildings rides and entry path. Riverside had already drawn up plans to build a rides section down there with a western theme. Poison Ivy also opened late #Post#: 2317-------------------------------------------------- Re: Old picnic area/ Alpine Bobsled install By: Lmm1986phishy Date: May 15, 2020, 9:58 pm --------------------------------------------------------- That's crazy I didnt know about the western area. Is the area where goliath is still called crack axle canyon? I always thought Great Escape would change the name of ghost town to Crack Axle Canyon when the Nightmare was installed. Always seemed weird they chose that as the name. #Post#: 2319-------------------------------------------------- Re: Old picnic area/ Alpine Bobsled install By: Mrceagle Date: May 17, 2020, 9:32 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Yes, the Western area they did build the same area that Goliath is still called Crackaxle Canyon. The name is a generic Premier parks western branding that was carried over after the SFI purchase. As for TGE I think they were aware such a generic name change wouldn't have gone over well but that was also many years ago and who knows what will happen in teh future after the generic huricane hrrbor conversaion. #Post#: 2322-------------------------------------------------- Re: Old picnic area/ Alpine Bobsled install By: CodyatTGE Date: May 20, 2020, 4:54 pm --------------------------------------------------------- I think Ghost Town needs a full 5-10 year rehaul, and then maybe retheme it to Crackaxle. Obviously they wouldn’t do 10 consecutive years, but over time this is what I’d want to see: -RMC Raptor on Steamin’ Demon’s pad -GCI Wooden Coaster on 50% of Canyon Blaster’s pad, the side closest to the hill and furthest from Desperado -Zamperla Twist and Bounce on Condor’s pad -Adirondack Outlaw -Desperado Plunge rerouted into about 25% of the remaining part of Canyon Blaster’s pad -Marshall’s Stampede -Chance Unicoaster taking up a portion of what’s left of Canyon Blaster -if there’s room, a Gerstlauer Sky Fly on Canyon Blaster’s pad as well -Triotech Simulator ride themed to a tornado in Nightmare’s old building #Post#: 2324-------------------------------------------------- Re: Old picnic area/ Alpine Bobsled install By: Mrceagle Date: May 21, 2020, 5:51 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Don't really see a good reason to remove condor. but let's not get too far off-topic about Bobsled and the former picnic grounds. there is a topic for a conversation about what you'd do to area of the park. *****************************************************
